I love old photos of people and places in the U.P. It's fun to see how styles have changed and look for clues in the background. But most of all, the real story is told by the faces: the stern, weathered look of the old folks... the playful, carefree expression of the younger ones... the body language captured in one fleeting moment of time. Many thanks to Keith Meyers for taking time to scan and publish a treasury of memories in his Pasty Cam guest album.

This picture gives me a chuckle. The guy in the front is obviously smitten with the woman next to him. The elderly gentleman is only in the photo because he has to be and he isn't enjoying it at all. The ladies in the second row are envious of the love seen in the front row. What a great photo!

I love old photos too. Maybe this was an "engagement" photo.

Hey Charlie, thanks for posting this family picture from 1921! You asked who was included in the photograph...I don't know everyone, but the front row includes (from left to right), my grandfather's brother John "Jack" Meyers, my grandmother Nellie Barringer Meyers, my grandfather Chester Meyers, I'm not positive on the next one, but I believe this is my great-grandfather John Meyer, and my great-great grandmother Melissa Clark Barringer Morris. The second person from the left in the second row is my grandmother's sister Irene (she and Jack were married on the same day as Chester and Nellie) and the the next to last person in the second row is my great-grandmother Augusta Wille Meyer(s). I am unsure about the others, but have received suggestions on others in the photograph over the years. If anybody recognizes anyone, I would be interested in hearing from you.

It is really touching to see my Grandfather George Smith in the first photo. I miss him dearly, as I know the rest of my family does too. He could be a narly gradpa at times, but the other side of him was sneaking candy to his grandkids and their frieds after biting them on the ear.

By Golly That 1921 I was born in a log building that had been a logging camp blacksmith shop in Kimball Wis. No wonder, friendly times, Look how nice and friendly those people all looked too.
