Donn de Yampert must be standing down by the Marina on the Hancock side in this photo. Do those look like snow clouds or what?

Donn has added a ton of new pictures to his gallery, if you have a few minutes to browse.
Aussie-land
Good morning in the U.P. and good evening from Adelaide, South Australia, where the Kiss Internet Cafe whisks me back up north to catch up on Pasty Cam. The laptop I picked up in Minnesota last spring finally gave up the ghost, accounting for my radio silence these past few days. Good ol' Pasty Central is booming in loud and clear down under. So I ask myself: what an I doing away from da U.P. at my favorite time of year? Tink it's time to head back home - - before all the color is gone.

By Walt, Ohio on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 07:15 am:

Nice shot of the Super 8 an da tech!

By Dan Urbanski, Silver City MI on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 08:25 am:

I didn't even have to look at the credit to know this photo
was a DeYampert. The man is an expert at finding calm
water. He also gets going much earlier in the morning than
I do.

Nice shot, Donn!

By Tina, Howell, MI on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 08:44 am:

This photo is a treat for the eyes!

By Andy, Ohio on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 08:51 am:

I would say that Don would have to had been standing to the east of the old smelter complex for this shot, judging from what seems to be slag on the shore in the lower left corner. I haven't been able to make it back to the UP yet this year, looks like I will only get a week at christmas. *SIGH* Next summer, I hope!

By Connie - Colorado on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 09:08 am:

Don't look at this photo too long, it might "empty you"!! Huh huh! I love puns. My sisters are visiting my mom in Houghton right now! Maybe I will see them on the bridge cam!

By Rob Moffat, Athens, OH on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 09:27 am:

Great shot of MTU, My grandmother's house was at the end of Blanch, nearest campus, it was all one big playground for us when we were kids.

By Lisa, farfrom home in TN on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 09:27 am:

I do hope there is some color left when my husband and I get there at the end of the month.
Slow down Mother Nature!
Seems winter is in a hurry though, it has been in the 30's and 40's even here in TN. Brrrr, my blood has gotten weak from living so far south ;)
Take care all and stay warm.

By Tom, Colorado on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 09:46 am:

Winter is a com'n. Snow is on da Peak here in Colorado Springs this morning. The weather changes about the same time here. We have already had a few days with snow down on the high plains.

It warms my heart every morning to see scenes from the UP. I take a short trip back every morning when I visit the site.

By Joe Pio, Flatlander Michigan on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 10:00 am:

Is there really a song called the Keweenaw Song??
I had someone sing it, and he claimed that was the title??

By jerry door wi on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 10:02 am:

Pretty picture of canal and college but when I look at the bridge cam the leaves are not
showing color. Is the picture of the college
from this year? Planning trip up but would like
to hit it right for the color.

By Gal in Kalamazoo on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 11:02 am:

Hey everyone! Yooper Joe and I are meeting up this weekend in your neck of the woods for our long-anticipated little color tour on Sunday. I'm glad to see that there's some fall color somewhere in the UP, since the bridge cam shot hasn't been promising this week. Do you think it'll be a good weekend (other than the weather, brrrr) for it? Lots of color, or do you think it'll be better next weekend??

By greg, royal oak on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 11:25 am:

great shot, donn. really enjoy your work.

By Ann Hilton Fisher on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 11:30 am:

I'm sure that what you mean by the Keweenaw Song is a beautiful song called "The Keweenaw Light." It has references to Centennial, Mohawk and Ahmeek and Lake Manganese. The chorus goes "And the stars will shine bright on the south shore tonight, And the Keweenaw light swings over the bay. If dreams could come true I'd still be there with you, by the banks of still waters at the close of the day" It was written, but never recorded, by Craig Johnson, who went on to join the Double Decker String Band. It has been recorded by Sally Rogers and Art Thieme. Sally Rogers website will sell you a cassette with it, and I can guarantee that any fan of PastyCam would love the song. No commercial connection--just a fan.

By Donn de Yampert, PT, DPT. on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 11:55 am:

Photograph was taken with the non-waterproof Sony F717 now departed and sitting on my table as a paper weight. Photo angle is from the loading dock of the Quincy Smelter last Fall. I used Photoshop 7.0 to make some minor changes.

By Troll Diva, Ferndale,MI on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 12:29 pm:

Don you are "da man"! I love your stuff, my husband (Bob the troll) being a photographer thinks your stuff is top notch! We are leaving for the UP tomarrow morning-packing our stuff right now. Its gonna be a cold one up there! Packing the sweats...

Memories of beautiful fall leaves & of DA TECH!!!
It's on my desktop today!!

By Missin the UP from NJ on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 03:12 pm:

When today's pic popped up my first thought was, "It looks like a castle"! Unlike so many visitors to Pasty.com, I don't have memories of seeing Tech, but I sure do appreciate this FAB shot today. It does make me think of the pictures of castles on the Danube. But, of course, much prettier!

By FRNash/PHX, AZ on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 03:37 pm:

Absent a reliable report from a human observer, those planning to hit da Keweeaw at peak color may want to keep an eye on the Midwest Foliage Report, or for other areas start at the Foliage Network home page. It looks like I won't be able to make it this year! :-(

By FRNash/PHX, AZ on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 03:42 pm:

Arrrgh, darn typos! "Keweeaw" above should of course be "Keweenaw"!

By Michelle, Marine City, Mi on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 06:09 pm:

Where is the pictures of the snow you received
yesterday?

By escaped to fl on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 08:45 pm:

Yes, where are the snow pictures?

By lk,MI on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 09:15 pm:

We did get snow yesterday, but when it comes during color season,it doesn't deserve to be photographed! It just doesn't make you want to pick up the camera when it comes this early:)

By The Dam Guy, Parasite Creek on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 09:26 pm:

Ah, it may look like a castle, but as a former "toot" I can assure you... we had other names for it. (I'm sure some of you Techies out there know exactly what I mean.)

By Steve Habersetzer Racine Wi on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 09:36 pm:

I think there should be a picture of the snow, it would make the colors stick out so much more. How much snow was there?

By Steve h Racine on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 09:42 pm:

By the way Donn, very nice shot. I'm looking forward to more.

By John-Canton Mi on Thursday, October 2, 2003 - 10:14 pm:
