I believe this is along the shore at Lac LaBelle. Our thanks to Edward Carter for a number of panoramic views in his guest album.
We received word this morning that Keweenaw resident John Kaleita passed away. John was one of our very first Pasty.NET members, and well known for his local newsletter "Hear Ye". A gentle man who loved the U.P., he will be greatly missed.

WAS THIS PICTURE TAKEN THIS YEAR? IF SO, FALL HAS REALLY COME ON STRONG. BEAUTIFUL PICTURE.

SHERRY, OK~
This beautiful panoramic view was uploaded to Edward Carter's Gallery on June 29, 2003, so no, it wasn't taken this year! Color of the same is on it's way though, in fact Meteorologist John Dee says there's a possibility of snow in the higher elevations, this weekend. Nothing to accumulate, but flakes in the air! BRRRR......

what a beautiful picture! I agree, this is Lake Medora, probably taken from the public access site.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE!! WE HAVE A HOME ON LACLABELLE. THIS COULD BE ACROSS THE LAKE FROM THE MOUNTAIN.
WE WERE SO SADDEN BY THE DEATH OF JOHN KALEITA. WE ENJOYED HIM SO MUCH. THE LITTLE NEWSPAPER HE HAD AT LACLABELLE WAS WONDERFUL AND KEPT US ALL INFORMED ABOUT THE THINGS AT THE LAKE. WHEN HE QUIT THE PAPER, HE WROTE TO US. HE WAS TRULY A MARVELOUS PERSON. WE ARE SO HAPPY WE COULD CALL HIM A FRIEND.

Speaking of Cornish Pasties..just got this message from a Cornishman that I work with on the internet...he runs www.magnesium.com and is named Sam Gerrans and is a real native (altho he lives in Moscow now)...He was in Cornwall for a vacation and I asked if he had a pasty..his reply below..
"PS Yes, we did the pasty thing. There is a shop, Barnecuts, in Bodmin which makes famous cheese and onion pasties. My son and I became real fans."
That should create a talking point as we carry on about Carrots or no carrots, etc.

Cheese and onions??! EEWwww. One of my aunts used to eat her pasties with mustard. I haven't been able to bring myself to try that yet. She said "Don't knock it 'til you try it!" So, maybe.... I just put butter (OK, oleo) and a little ketchup. Haven't tried Toivo and Eino's Secret Sauce yet, either. Looks like a spicier ketchup. 'eh? I'm thinking MEDORA also, on the pic. Really pretty!

Beautiful pictures, but frankly I tune into the PastyCam to view what's currently going on up there. Why can't we post CURRENT pictures, and
maybe have a seperate link to the "art gallery"?
By Alice, Ventura, CA on Friday, September 26, 2003 - 12:26 am:
I second the "Current" pictures idea. I think the gallery is great, but should be used as the gallery and as a second enjoyment. I would love to see the daily pictures of something taken today or at least this week.

I like all the photos current or not. Pasty Central does a great job and if someone needs current then maybe they are do for a trip to the C.C. Some people, I know are only making recommendations, but others act like they are paying money each month for this free service.
Don't want to start a war. Just seems there are always people unhappy with something.
Peace

Cheese and onion pasties! I'll have to try them next time I'm in Cornwall. On my 2 visits to Cornwall I found that in towns frequented by tourists (Penzance and West/East Loee), there were shops that sold more than beef & potato pasties. There were pork & apple, chicken curry, beef with stilton, and yes, cheese & onion. In the less touristy towns (Liskeard and St. Agnes) I only found beef and potato. I didn't find any with carrot or rutabaga (swedes) although, I've heard that's how they make them in Redruth. My theory is 2 fold. First, pasties were originally made with what was most readily available. At times that could be chicken, pork, or (shudder) fish. Here in the States, beef is most readily available, all the time. Second, the various flavors that are sold in the tourist area are to appeal to people who have not grown up with pasties and find them bland or "boring". I've had the "traditional" and chicken curry pasties. Now, I wish I had tried the cheese & onion when I had the chance.

This is the only time of the year when I regret not living up North as I miss the change of season and the crispness in the air. On the other hand, I do love wearing shorts when I do my Christmas shopping!
