Good morning from warm and sunny Upper Michigan. Hard to imagine just how cold and icy the lake shore will be just a few weeks from now... almost like a different planet. We'll enjoy the summer, along with this little guy, just as long as we can.

love his red hair!! ....The beginning of a confirmed yooper..this is how it starts..sun on your back and spashing in the "Big" lake...a great adventure and who cares if the shoes are ruined..."maybe we can stop at the Harbor for some ice cream before we head to camp"!!.....if he is a very lucky boy his grandma will have homemade pasties waiting ............memories for a happy youth!!

I have admired this picture before in Donn's gallery. I think many of us experience a youthful spirit when surrounded by the beauty of the U.P. Next time, maybe I'll even get my shoes wet! Thanks for the great picture, Donn.

Hey, will youse guys let us former yoopers know when the trees start changing color please? Although you're trying to hang onto summer, fall can't be far away!

Hard to believe that you could actually grow up safely in the 1960's without stuff like sunscreen, bicycle helmets, shin guards, kneepads
and such. The only danger I see in this photo is that those are prolly his Sunday shoes... and his dad (or mom)is gonna whup his butt. But wait, that's not legal anymore either.

Could anyone please give me any info on the winter war /Russo/Finno conflict 1939,40?? I have one book by Richard Condon from a few years ago,but have been unable to locate additional readings....if any one from Finland has any books etc...please inform me of the books,would love to read the Finnish version/perspective of the war from suomi.

Hey, did you hear about the friars being behind on their belfry payments? They started selling flowers in addition to jams and baked goods. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good men to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close, but they ignored him. So the rival florist hired Hugh McTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town, to "persuade" them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop. Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars!

You gotta watch those florist friars they can be a real problem. :-) Hey does anyone know what the big dig is in Calumet on the corner of M-41 and pine street?? Looks like someone is going to start mineing again. Maybe someone could post a picture of the project so everyone can see what I'm talking about.

J Koski Have seen various things on the subject on the internet. Just need a good search engine and a little digging and you can udually find it. Don't have the web site but the one that I remember had Pictures and told about the various planes that the Finns used at that time. Have also seen some of the Pictures and so forth from the Russian side.

I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to fix a problem I have. Problem is when I load my photos from my digital camera to my PC they look very clear and when I upload then to my gallery or send one through e-mail they are so blurry?????? How can I keep my photos clear? I would appreciate any input on this problem.

The Russo Finnish war has been covered on ETV and/or PBS and you could probably get videos from those sources. I remember that the US sent some 50 obsolete fighters to Finland and maybe some aid. The last I remember, Finland was the only nation in the world to pay us back for the war time support we provided. Britain still owes us for several wars back to 1812.

Good photo. I was in the U.P. for a week in July. Did not bring a swimsuit but I did go wading in Lake Superior and for me it was warm enough to swim. Regret I left the suit at home in Tennessee. The weather was great. I miss the peace I feel when I can sit by the lake.

Search under the Karelian war, you can get a lot of information over the internet. There is also a book by the name, but i dont know the author. Hope this helps!
