Toivo, moving east in southern Northwest Territories on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 04:40 am:

When Rick buzzed Lake Linden with his camera, was Mary the Moderator up on the roof at the High School shooting back? One of those rare "dualing Pasty Cams".

Lake Linden's spotlight album of the week is becoming quite a collection of views around this U.P. town. I would love to see as many great shots from Ironwood, Munising, the Soo, St. Ignace, etc, etc, etc. If you have friends with a camera ANYWHERE in the U.P. let them know about the Pasty Cam Guest Gallery, and Mary will set 'em up.

Lake Linden - the gateway to the Trapp Rock Valley. I think Rick must have landed his 'copter on the chopper pad located on the school roof and took the second picture. That's how I would have done it! (Mary may have been busy moderating.)

By Dan U Silver City, MI on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 08:15 am:

Ha! Gotcha - these two pictures are shot at different times
of the day. Notice the placement of highlights and
shadows. The aerial photo was taken in in the afternoon,
the rooftop in the morning. Mary must have been waiting
there a long time for Rick to pass by!

By eyes wide shut on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 10:31 am:

Dan U,
Things must be a little slow there in Silver City. You should get out more, you seem to have a little time on your hands.

By eyes closing on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 10:36 am:

PS
I think the pictures were taken the other way around. Ricks's was taken earlier. Mary had late day Sun behind her. Now I have too much time on my hands. Next I'll be wondering about Toivo's laundry?

By MB2 on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 11:17 am:

Mary's shot was taken looking almost directly North. From the shadows, the sun would be to the east. That only occurs in the morning. The shadows are the other direction in Rick's photo. Therefore, Marys' shot was taken earlier in the day.

Class "DD" Football State Champions - 1992. Seemed like just yesterday that this small town was doing big things. Sometimes good things come in small "packages". Especially if your carrying around "the Finnish Curse"...

By Chuck - Michigan - Yooper in Troll Land on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 11:46 am:

Thanks Rick and Mary for the new perspective of the old neighborhood. It brought back a lot of memories. I lived behind St. Joe's School and attended the school and church and spent a lot of time playing ball in the schoolyard.

By Ken from da UP on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 11:51 am:

"Finnish Curse"? Can you clarify? You're right, Dan, but are those cars in the Old St. Joe's parking lot the same?

By Missin the UP from NJ on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 11:55 am:

YEAH! More Skypix. Love those shots!

THANKS!

By Ken from da UP on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 11:56 am:

Hei, Toivo, can you get someone to take your pic at the zero mile marker at Dawson Creek? C'mon now. Too bad Taka isn't with you, he could have recorded the epic journey of TOIVO'S TRAVELS. And relative to the above, TGIF = Thank God I'm Finnish. :>)

By Alice, Ventura, CA on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 12:41 pm:

Yes, what is the "Finnish Curse?"

By pikkuleipa on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 01:17 pm:

If the finnish curse is what I think it is....hahahaha! That explains ALOT!

By Mary Lou on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 03:57 pm:

Mary....Isn't that your family home in the forground of the second picture? The picture is the route Gary and I would walk home from High School....out the door, past the church and I would turn right at the corner and he would turn left....he lived on top of eighth street hill and I lived at the bottom on Front street....It lasted for the four years of LLHS. The romance lasted forever!!..we were married in that church..St Joseph's

By Mary Drew on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 04:31 pm:

Yes, Mary Lou, that is my family home on the left of the second picture. And for all you wondering about the time of the shot....it was taken yesterday, (Monday, Aug. 18th), at approximately 11:04:13! (According to my camera anyway!)

By ?????? on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 07:44 pm:

Rick what time was your sky pix taken?

By Grandma's Pasties, MN on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 08:12 pm:

There aren't many days to count down to the Minnesota State Fair now. Day after tomorrow (21st) and the weather hasn't helped finish up those last minute things. Maybe it'll break. Had just a trace of rain which didn't do much. For those of you attending the fair, check out mnstatefair.org and go to Fairfield's Fabulous Fair Foods. Great search engine for finding any kind of food or item at the fair. Also the website had everything else too. Be sure and stop by to say hi. *** Sandy and Chuck ***

By Donna on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 09:09 pm:

Fin...WHAT is the Finnish Curse? Hard to believe it was 92 that the Lake Linden Hubbell Lakes took the state championship football trophy home! And, they were UNDEFEATED that year! Our boys ruled! :-D

By Mary Drew on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 09:28 pm:

The Lakes also took home the State title in 1997 Class D that year, undefeated.....yes, they ruled!

For Geri in Kingsford, and Scott stuck in the 50's in Indiana,
Regarding the conversation from Monday about the Beatles song, When I'm 64. My sources tell me that Paul sang it.

By Mary Drew on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 08:53 am:

Nice shots Rick! Were you really looking for me on the roof? :-)

I don't know about you, but I never made it up on the roof of the High School when we were there....it's quite the view. I can only imagine the view you have from your plane. Maybe sometime I can convince you to take me along on a picture taking flight. Maybe I could fly the plane while you shoot!!

By Fin from LL on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 09:46 am:

The "Finnish Curse" is actually a very complex and scientific stumbling block that has evolved over the years due to the chilly climate that most Fins have associated themselves with over the course of several generations. If your a Fin and you plan on outrunning the Finnish Curse, I suggest you move as far away from the big lake as you possibly can. However, if the beauty of Superior has you spellbound and tied to your roots in the U.P. then I suggest you embrace the curse and love your man just the same. Besides, it's not the size of the hook that matters, it's how you wiggle the worm! ;)

By big K - Harvenasta on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 01:57 pm:

Hmmm...the "Finnish curse"... would that explain why there are so many women running around the UP with poor depth perception.... ( sorry to be so randy, I'm just trying to keep up )

By Linda {Bond} Gillett on Thursday, August 21, 2003 - 11:11 am:
