Miles of smiles across the U.P., even on a foggy day at the Soo. Tim Colborn has some vacation shots in his Gallery album, along with some neat old photos of his ancestors who worked the mines.

It's a little foggy out here on the west coast these days, too. Did you know they have thimbleberries in Washington, too? Just like back home. I'll pick a few for Tina before jumping back on the road to Alaska.

You'll find several new features around the website this morning: Wallpaper of the Week has been updated, and a new single page index as well as a Photographer's list have been added to the Guest Gallery. Enjoy!

The Valley Camp was a great place to visit while in the Soo. I know these two youngsters had a ball.

Congratulations to Mooch and the new Lions. They gave the Steelers everything they could handle and then some this past Saturday. I'm sure there was some celebrating over in Iron Mountain. Was good to see them play well. I hope they can make a good show this season.

Mike B Pittsburg. It sounds like you are a Lions fan now...or were you last year too? We here in the UP LOVE Steve & Tom Isso....They are our boys!!.....UP born and bred, NMU grads.....and are back every year for fund raisers for Iron Mountain and the rest of the UP. These are two very, Good Men!!...in the manner of true "Yooperdom"....but tell me what me what am I to do.....I am a Packer fan now secretly rooting for the Lions....and a U of M fan rooting for MSU....I am begining to feel like traitor!!

Just tried the Gallery Search. Keeps coming back with nothing. Am I doing something wrong?

By Connie - Colorado on Monday, August 11, 2003 - 11:09 am:

Doug,
Look at the middle of the first page of the galleries where it says "Quick list of Photographer links
All albums shown on one page. " Click on the links within these phrases to see the new options.

From an "older gal" new at computers....what's wallpaper and where does it go... Ms Katie, Il.

By Doug from Michigan on Monday, August 11, 2003 - 01:03 pm:

Boy .... do I feel stupid. I was using the Search box. Guess I need to read the screen better. But, as it seems, we guys don't read the manuals either.

Ms. Katie...
Wallpaper - refers to the color or picture that covers the entire background of your screen (the area behind your icons my computer, recycle bin, etc). You can use a solid color or any image you would like such as a family picture or image from pasty.com.
To see your wallpaper setting...
-RIGHT click on the desktop (not touching any icons)
-On the right click menu, go to "properties" and LEFT click on the word "properties".
-From the tabs that come up, left click on the "background" tab.
-Here you can select a new wallpaper image that windows includes or a solid color.
*** If you want to use your own picture such as one from pasty.com, follow the instructions and info on this webpage:
http://familyinternet.about.com/library/blwallpaper.htm

I hope this helps....

Speaking from experience and having sailed on 3 great lakes freighters a family cannot beat the tour of the Valley Camp Museum..An authentic 525' straight decker is sitting just as it ended its career in 1968 and the complete ship can be toured and all facets of onboard living conditions seen. http://www.boatnerd.com/fitz/firstseason.htm

Mary Lou,
That is quite a dilema, but a good one to have. I agree, Tom & Steve are a couple of REAL gentleman and great representatives of the character you will find in a true Yooper.

Living in Pittsburgh for the last 17 years, I have become somewhat of a Steeler fan (Mainly because I don't see any Lions or Packers games unless the Steelers play them), but I will definitely be following the Lions much more closely this year.

Wow...thanks for the picture today guys...what a shock to check in and find my kids smiling at me. They look a bit different tho now. That was taken back in 1998. Kandi starts her freshman year at Saginaw Valley State University next week and Jeremy starts the 8th grade soon after.

Memories are so GREAT!!!!!
