We're collecting some nice photos of Eagle Harbor over in the Guest Gallery this week. The top one here from David Woon is looking back toward the inner harbor, while Dennis Kemper's shot is just a few feet back, turned to the left. Judging by the sky, they might have been taken on the same day.

Our traveling Toivo apparently has dropped below the radar (and possibly below the U.S.-Canadian border). Last we heard he was somewhere between Vancouver and Seattle, looking for a new mouse. I seriously doubt he'll make it to Alaska by this weekend.

In other Pasty Cam news... Be sure to stop in Eagle Harbor this weekend for the Annual Art Fair, sponsored by the Copper Country Associated Artists. Clyde Mikkola is this year's featured Artist. Saturday 10 - 5 and noon to 5 on Sunday.

Wish I were there to go to the art fair! We moved to WY the end of June. Beautiful country but not my beloved UP! Will I ever see the big lake again :-(

nice to see pic's of eagle harbor. Heard via the grapevine that the township would like another new fire truck. sounds like a waste of taxpayers money to me. looks as if the township will have a million or so $$$$$$$ invested in fire equipment over the next 15 years or so. having been a firefighter, more equipment is not going to help save buildings. Perhaps they would be further ahead in investing in life saving equipment and training (more than the 4 or 5 that have been trained) and purchasing an ambulance. How long is the wait for an ambulance in Eagle Harbor. How many fire fighters are there during the winter? Cost justified? Insurance costs go down? Answer to the last 2 would be no,,,the first not too many. Why not get a full time fire department,,,some may be able to justify the cost associated with it. Looks like the township board should stand up to the fire department and say enough is enough.
Eagle harbor township will have more invested than the remainder of the County. Sure am happy that I am paying taxes in Grant and not Eagle Harbor Township.

Also this weekend we have the Copper Country Rock & Mineral Club Show at Houghton Elementary School in Houghton. We have a replica of Sue the Tyrannosaurus Rex from the Field Museum, in Chicago is our feature Display. Our show runs Friday August 8th from 1:00pm to 9:00pm, Saturday, August 9th from 10:00am to 6:00pm, and Sunday August 10th from 11:00am to 5:00pm. We will have about 10 dealers with all kinds of cool rocks, minerals, jewelery and kids grab bags for free, there is no admission charge and we will have door prize drawings throughout the weekend. We will also have a fluorescent mineral display or as most people know them as glow in the dark minerals.

Wish that we were going up there a week early. We are going to miss the art show! Is there anything that is going on the following week. We are also going to Marquette. Does anyone know what is going on in that area? Can't wait to smell the fresh air and cooler tempatures!!!!

By Lucy, TX on Thursday, August 7, 2003 - 03:04 pm:

Today's pictures look so inviting! I can just imagine myself sitting on the rocks and almost feel the spray of water as it splashes against the rocks. Yesterday in the Dallas area the temp was 109. Today is supposed to be cooler...only 106! Oh to be home and near nice cool Superior!

Phyllis, Texas...The following week-end is Copper Harbor's Art in the Park, always a popular attraction. I'm not certain what is going on other than that as I will be out of town and will miss the week-end festivities, but if you like arts, crafts, music and food I'm sure that you'll enjoy Art in the Park.

Kudos to all the folks with galleries! Lots of great shots! I hope to be adding some myself soon. In the meantime though, it looks like we're a bit behind on WOW's again. I'm looking forward to some fresh hi-res wallpaper!

Carol from Wy,

What part of Wyoming did you move to? I am moving to Gillette in 3 weeks. Misery loves company. Am originally from the copper country, have been living in Wisconsin for the past few years. Am making quick trip to the Keweenaw this weekend. Got to spend a day or two soaking up the purest freshest most vitalizing air on earth while playing in Superior and on the beaches. If you are near the Gillette area maybe we can hook up and compare UP stories. I'd even be willing to bring some Thimbleberry jam!

Carol/WY, you can still see the big lake by tuning in to the pastycam. :>) PTL and thanks to Charlie and Co.

Mimi and I went to Ishpeming to the Skölmusic concert and dance. Sure was fun! Love that Scandahoovian music! Even got to play my banjo with them for the 2nd half. :>)

To Carol wyo, I have had to live here too many years without Lake Superior, but do a lot of boating and fishin at Glendo res, and Flaming Gorge. Not near the size and beauty of the UP, but in a differant way very beautiful! Live in Pueblo West Colo now right next to Pueblo Res, which is in the middle of the desert, but boating is good when not in drought!Good luck, but do not try to compare this to the UP, There is no comparison to that beauty!

What is the building in the top photo of Eagle Harbor? Is that the old Lake Breeze Hotel? If so I spent many a happy summer night there as a child...
