I alwasys admire the month end memorial here on the pasty cam. I can't add any friends or family that I have lost this month, but I will say that things just haven't been the same for me since I've lost my parents. Those of you that get a chance to grow old with yours, take advantage of it because it just isn't the same when they are gone.

By Kevin K. Lodi, Ca on Thursday, July 31, 2003 - 04:23 am:

Let's add Bob Hope

In honor and memory of my wife, Elizabeth Anne Moray of 33+ years, who passed on January 26, 2003. She made her final trip to the Copper Country recently and was memorialized on the beach @ 5 Mile Point on what would have been her 61st birthday, July 23, 2003. Attending were most of her eight siblings, son, daughter, three grandchildren, her mother, other relatives, and close friends.
These were some words spoken:
I see a bright thread in the sky above us, a trail of spiritual luminosity crossing the vault of our experience. Before what is now, I saw the trees, the lake, the ground, the basic and physical world of our realities. Now 'tis time for me to look upwards and outwards, to realize and reach for that beyond the simple. I hope to see the mystery of it all, and while not understanding it all, I am moved by it all. There was something very good about my relationship with Liz. Life has moved on, and I have sorrow that she has too.

By Alice, Ventura, CA on Thursday, July 31, 2003 - 01:03 pm:

Good advice, MRM LL MI on enjoying your parents while they are here.

My principal when I first started teaching also gave me another good piece of advice...learn to make all of your family recipes. And write them down. She knew we were Finns and that my mother made some Finnish foods.

Recently my niece wrote to me asking if I had my mother's recipe for Rhubarb pie. I had it, because it was one of the unique recipes my mom made. She made it with a custard filling.

And write them down, because believe it or not, those things you make every day and think you will never forget how to make...you do! And I am talking about the simple, every day meals that you make without even thinking about it. It is the recipe for macaroni and cheese that I can't remember exactly how my mom made it. I just know she baked it in the oven.

I made a recipe file of all the recipes I used when the kids were young and gave it to them for Christmas one year. My son still says that was one of the nicest presents he ever got.

By Barry Seymour, Manhattan Beach, CA on Thursday, July 31, 2003 - 04:40 pm:

In loving memory of me Mum, Marjorie Seymour of Marquette, who would have been 80 on July 13th had she not passed in early 1997. I miss her every day and regret that she never had a chance to meet our two beautiful daughters who were born in late '97 and in '01. Their grandmother gazes lovingly lovingly down on them from a picture on the wall, though, and every now and then I see her in their eyes, smile or movements.

I love the UP, and Yoopers are so special 'cause they remember the old times and the old ways. There are no Interstate highways in the UP - I think that matters. God bless y'all during the summer.
