What a great 1-2 combination from two Pasty Cam contributors. Dennis Kemper snapped the top photo from the Lookout on Quincy Hill, and Mark Maguzek framed the other one from down below. Very timely for bridgefest weekend.

Hard to belive next week is the last week of Spring. We have had a ton of floral photos emailed to the Pasty Cam in recent days, so beginning Monday we will begin a colorful 'flower-power' week.

I wish someone could trim some of the tree's that have grown, preventing a better view from the scenic turn off at the top of the hill.

WOW selection of the bridge from below with fluffy cumulus clouds and true blue sky, top photo has been placed on the page previously from others but has nice color in fore and backgrounds. Good use of the lens in composition on the second photo.

He is quite the photographer with many shots we will never see on the web that you could buy from him privately. He is a fervent student of digital photography, I learn from him, Steve Brimm and Dan Urbanski each time I interact with them.

It's good to see shots of the UP without snow!! What is that triangular tower(?) structure in the upper left quarter of the first photo?

That is the Houghton County Courthouse. The sheriff, the county clerk and the probate judge all have their offices in the building. All public records such as marraiges, births, deaths, property deeds are kept there. The county jail was there when I went to the old Houghton High School which has been torn down and is now the large patch of green grass to the right of the courthouse.

I just don't know WHAT it is about this bridge, but I sure love it. These are BOTH now WOWS for me! :)

I love the bridge too! I think it is especially beautiful at sunset and at night.It was great seeing the moon the other night. I imagine we will see it tonight also. Hope so!

Yes what is it about bridges?
I like the lift bridge in Duluth also.
They have history behind them I guess?

They have charactor too. Not like the new
bridges of today, just concrete.

Just watched the fireworks above the Bridge
on the MTU live cam. Those live cams give
a great view. I've never been to Bridgefest
but was in Houghton for Fourth of July last
year and enjoyed it.

When I was little, I learned to count by making a mark for each car that went North or South over the bridge. My dad worked on the bridge for 26 years. It is an amazing structure and has an 'only one in the world' record in its build/structure. Memories! Memories! I know now when I cross that bridge, I am home.

I'm sure there was a bridge cam mentioned someplace. Could somebody please post the adress (or, since this might have been asked before, when it was posted? Great idea with the archives. Love 'em)?
Oh, and Scott, you're right, but I wonder what they'll say about the older concrete bridges in another hundred years? Anyway, there's an old concrete structure of a dam, 1920's vintage, not far from where I live. I think it's fascinating, though not as dynamic as a bridge with all the people passing across.

Thanks for the info Bob. In a recent survey Devon was voted the best county in England to live in so it must be the English equivalent of the UP. Devon is definitely a nice place to live and people come here to retire. Cornwall came 3rd out of all the counties.
