Is the big old wooden boat still parked on the north side of gas station? I am from Calumet and that boat was parked there as long as I can remember.

This is a beautifully done sign. Just my opinion, but hope someone decides to paint the building white to really set off the artwork, or as they say today, "make it pop"!!
We've been having what I call Michigan weather these days. Cool air, warm sun and a breeze. At my stage of life, so glad for a cool spring. Something not common in NJ. We're having a lot of rain this spring also, which almost makes the air smell as fresh as the UP's-- I said ALMOST. Like a native of this area once said "a leak in the fresh air factory" Sad, huh?

Don't you think the Historical Society would be doing more good restoring this great old building than painting it bright yellow? Nice sign tho. Why not put it on one of those billboards that still advertise places long out of business?

The sign is a bright addition and it really stands out. I notice the bridge is up, I wonder if my husband's nephew's boat, the Ranger III is going through. Looks like a nice day.

The countryside filled with the beautiful summer shades of greens, brings coolness to the scene, and the sunny yellow woodframed building stands out to shine brightly with its unique historial sign to adorn its side. Just picture how cheerful this new roadside facelift will look against our winter wonderland. The yellow will be much more welcomed than another simply white background.

I agree with D, the yellow is neat and would really make a statement in winter. How 'bout painting the fascia white. (trim in case I can't spell). Or maybe the blue color in the sign.
Contrast is good.

p.s. Dad and I and pets are leaving in a few weeks to come UP and stay the summer. I can't wait!!!!

Last I knew the building and boat were owned by Tom Pointer who also owned the Delaware Mine. I doubt that the historical society painted the building.
Beautiful job as always by Mark McEvers! I enjoy driving around the Copper Country and spotting signs done by Mark. They are always beautiful and distinctive works of art.

(((Hey Janine))) Who is your Grandma in Ahmeek? My Grandpa, Paul Siira, lives on the highway right across from the road that goes to 5 mile point. 3 houses from Lassila's insurance building.

Fifty years ago,passing this building while on rides with my grandparents always signaled that I was now really and finally in the Keeweenaw. As a young boy, it was special and magical to me to make these little trips to the tip of Michigan to be with my grandparents. They made my time with them and the UP something special and I will always have a special place in my heart for them and the Copper Country. Thank you for posting this picture. It warms my heart.

As a member of the Keweenaw County Historical Society, I receive their quarterly newsletter: The Superior Signal. In the May 2003 issue there's an article about the Phillipsville Station. It was recently purchased by the Historical Society from Tom Poynter. The Society is going to use it for a storage building. They formed a new corporation just for this site, legally named "Keweenaw Historical Storage, Inc." Lots of great news about the Keweenaw in the Society's publication.
