Wonder if that old car parked across the raging river just behind the white birch was swept away later in the day? It looks like a 1930's vintage. Anyone know who owns that car?

We took a ride to look at the Eagle River falls on Mother's Day. What a bone-chilling sight. I don't think I have ever seen it that wild before. It was coral colored and so loud. There was a log lying in the middle of the falls about half way down and it was fighting for it's life there. It didn't budge though. Way to go, you water-soaked log!!

Toivo buddy, looks like you may be running out of steam on your trip. No wonder, staying up all hours of the night. Give me a call when you get up, and I'll work with you to get your travel page caught up. I figure you should be in either New Hampshire or Connecticut by now.

By the way, flooding from the rain last weekend has finally gone down. Here in Eagle River it totally washed out Garden City Road, which looks like a mini-Grand Canyon.

Nice to see a bird feeder on the Copper Harbor Cam - now I can birdwatch from my desk.

I took my girlfriend back home to da UP last summer and showed her Eagle River Falls - talk about polar opposites in water flow!

Where are the Greenwood Falls located?

If you look to the top right of the Greenwood falls picture there appears to be an old car by the birch trees. Personally, I think it is a boulder with a fallen tree behind it. (kinda like the 'haunted house' window on John Dees site a few years back)

At first look it could be a car, but on closer inspection I can see a boulder.

I opened the Greenwood falls photo in photoshop so
I could magnify the image and it looks like
branches and tree limbs to me. Mind you, the
pixels get distorted when magnified, but it still
looked like tree limbs. The U.P. looks so lush
right now. How are the bugs?

That top picture looks like the water in Oklahoma. I was so amazed when I moved here three years ago to see red water in the lakes..wow I mean after seeing such clear water all my life in Michigan I didnt understand why their water here especially in Lake Thunderbird was so red...ITS THE RED DIRT...amazing how dirt can be a different color in another state but its cool.

The ticks are out in full force. Found three on my dog yesterday. Mosquitos are starting to make an apperance. No black flies yet.

There is still snow on Mt. Ripley. Kind of a cool site to see the lush green grass with mountains of snow here and there.

BLACK FLY ALERT. Jonathan and I were hooking up wireless for a Pasty.NET member in South Range, when we were suddenly attacked by four big black flies. Also at a wireless install out in Point Mills I think I saw another one. We've had beautiful weather here the last couple of days, so a lot of outside work.

Several questions received about the new high speed wireless Internet service, which is now available if you are near-line-of-sight to either Quincy Mine (up to 7 miles away) or St. Anne's Church in Calumet. We are working on publishing complete specs and prices over on the Pasty.NET home page. Right now the most active clusters of members are around the downtown areas of Calumet and Houghton. For more info, email wireless@pasty.net. To everyone on the waiting list, we are installing in the order received, as quickly as we are able. Last night we received final approval from Keweenaw County for the expansion into the Peninsula. Hope to get the service up to Lac LaBelle, Eagle Harbor, and Copper Harbor later this summer.

How wonderful...Greenwood Falls! I spent many glorious spring and summer days sliding down those falls in my youth. Of course the rapids are not that strong, but are respectable. We would jump off the ledges in the deep water pools. Rumor has it there are tunnels and air pockets underneath the rocks and falls. Haven't ventured that far under. Good times and Great memories from that picture. Thank you to the person that provided that pic.

Greenwoods as us White Piners called it. i can't believe how high the water is. We spent many summer days swimming in the falls. You could swim through tunnels but it is not recommended. Very tight and dark and No there are not airpockets. Thanks for the awesome picture Dan.

I think the "car" is actually a prehistoric AKA Fred Flintstone Mobile, as the constuction materials do match.... that may be an archaeological site ya got der.

Hey the Detroit Pistons won 78-77 just wanted to check to see if there are any Pistons fans way up there watching the games? Anyway I was at that game lastnight and it was Crazy Pistons in 6

Hey you guys found my car! Yah know it all started when I was at Pauls supper club about 40 years ago...it was during smelt season...and after quite a few smelt heads and beers I couldn't drive her outa der. Looks as though the trees have grown in around her...I gave up looking cause I also lost the keys in the river that night...

Marquette made the National news this morning. The Today show has a shot of a boat going over one of the dams on the Dead River outside Marquette and CBS Radio said there was a state of emergency in the UP today!

You said the flooding washed out the Garden City Road. Are you talking about where the Garden City Creek crosses the road near the Bible Camp? Did it do any damage to the camp?

It did knock out the water pipe which goes along the road to the cabins, but no other damage done to any buildings. We'll try to get a picture of it before the road commission rebuilds the road.
