While I am having fun on my road trip, shots like this make me want to hustle on back to the U.P. Boy I love this time of year - - after snow is gone, before black flies arrive. Meanwhile I'm out trapesin' around Nashville, lookin for the Grand Ole Opry.

What a beutiful picture to start the day with. My family is from Ontonagon (Brookins, Broemer) so I like to keep tabs on the beauty of the north from down here in Virginia where I defend the country in the US Navy. Longing to head back up North.

HOW INCREDIBLE THOSE FALLS ARE WITH THE SNOW RUNOFF. MY HUSBAND AND I GO CAMPING AT FORT WILKINS EVERY YEAR AND IT DID MY HEART GOOD TO SEE THIS. WE ARE SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEARS TRIP. I ENJOY MY DAILY "FIX" OF THE SCENERY AS IT IS CHANGING TO SPRING AND SUMMER.

Where are the Manganese Falls located near Copper Harbor?

You can find directions to Manganese, as well as other falls around the Keweenaw Peninsula at the Chamber of Commerce website.

You can also find out where Manganese Gorge Falls is in the "Michigan Atlas & Gazatteer" published by DeLorme and available at Amazon.com, RandMcNally.com and many other sources. It lists at $19.95 but you can get it for less. It shows every road in Michigan from unimproved gravel up, in 118 pages of maps. It lists waterfalls, beaches, campgrounds, parks, senic drives, wineries, bicycle routes, etc. in 22 lists. I bought mine a couple of months after I was fortunate enough to stumble across this wonderful website. It has been invaluable to me as I read these postings and look up the locations that are mentioned. I keep it in my briefcase to have it with me at work every day. It's great for a Yooper wannabe and I'll bet, it could ue useful to Yoopers too. Enjoy.

I second that, in spite of my extensive travels on ALL the roads in the Ontonogon to Keweenaw range, I refresh my memories of that wonderful land with my personal copy of the DeLorme Gazetteer in my desk at work. I keep copies of Ohio, Kentucky and West Va. in my truck as I'm visiting ALL the roads in my new working circle in these parts.

Toivo-When we went to Nashville, we took a tour and saw the old Grand Ole Opry building. Fascinating. The the new Opryland hotel is beautiful! You have to walk around inside.

Great Picture today, change my wallpaper everyday it's hard to choose which one I like the best. Can't wait for my trip to the UP this year, if it was a little warmer would come up now.When do the smelt start running??

I don't know... His name was Norman. You MAY be thinking of Marvin, (Butch). I was born in 1956 in New Jersey, and the two jobs he held from my birth on, were Bendix and Lockheed. So if it was the late 1950's, I would probably doubt it!

I just got back to Wisconsin from a week long road trip thru Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming and back thru South Dakota, Minnesota to Wisc. While I enjoyed the trip, I sure am glad to be home again. Thought of you and your travels when we stopped in Keystone to see Rushmore. Sure don't envy you all the miles and days on the road but have enjoyed reading of your travels. I only put 2142 miles on the van, wonder what kind of miles you've put on the truck?

Unfortunately, however, I have never been successful, besides the fact that I have NO photograpic skill. Spent a lot of time in these parts. Sure appreciate the pic!

Sony DSC-S75 is my camera. Sony named their lens Carl Zeiss.
As ILMHitCC said, it was kinda hard to get down to this spot. I took a rope out of my trunk and climbed down the cliff. Then I lost my step and dropped down into water. My butt got soaked, but at least water tasted good (kind of..)

Youre making me want to move back to Ironwood, I never wanted to leave in the first place.

Beautiful picture. Brings back some fine memories. I was raised in Calumet and would go for walks to these falls, with my girl friends, who worked in Copper Harbor during the summer. One of them turned out to be my wife for the last 40 years. Now that we are retired, I spend as much time as possible at our place up there.

You take the best photos i've ever seen. I would love to just see what you do. Very good photography. Keep up the good work. There are very few of you that can do this.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see Taka's pictures of this area in book form? Any thoughts on that line, Taka?

This could be one of your best photographs yet. I really appreciated the covered drive black domes and the starry Houghton lights in snow but this is very good. Maybe the aperture was set for f22 and the speed 30 to get the cream effect of the water and the brilliant color from the moss and rocks and that great depth of field. I follow this picture all the way up the canyon. Very good photograph sir. Congratulations on your graduation. I have a feeling that we will not see the last of your work on graduation.

This is a great photo--I'm using it for my wallpaper; it helps to temper the rising South Carolina temperatures (now in th 80's). I love pasty.com.! We lived in Houghton from 1971-1987, and my three daughters are native YOOPERS!
