Spring was grinding and crunching along in Silver City yesterday, as the Big Iron River finally heaved its ice. It's hard to show just how massive the ice movement is in a photograph, but I took my chances getting right down into it to demonstrate. The pieces are big enough to hold a person, but still slippery enough to be a hazard. Sure enough, I took a backward slide on it. I sacrificed my butt, but held the camera high. Ya gotta keep your priorities.

Robins arrived today also. It's the first time we have had the two events occur on the same day in the 13 years I have been keeping records.

Everytime Dan shows a picture of the Big Iron I get really homesick. I spent lots of my early days growing up in White Pine and fishing on the Big Iron. My wife and I will be home to stay on Bumbletown hill the first weekend of May. Our first trip is going to be the Big Iron and the Lake of the Clouds. Very soon I will no longer be homesick becasue we will be home.

Our prayers are with all of our troops and their families.

What an amazing picture Dan! It was over 30 years ago; that my husband lost his wedding band while swimming in the Big Iron River. It was a cold day for a swim that day too! Leslie

I can just imagine the crunching and grinding as I look at the photos! Great pictures! We had gone out to Grand Haven the first weekend in March and the ice was doing the same thing there, but it was no where near as impressive as this!

Wow! I never saw anything like that. Robins? I have been anxiously waiting to see my first one. Glad to know Spring is around the corner.

Robins, warmer days, snow leaving, and signs of spring mean summer is on its way!!! I live for my summers at the lake and I can't wait to sit on my little front porch in the sun while listening to music, reading "People" magazine and watching the freighters go by. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it:) People magazine is light enough reading for the summer and I only WATCH the boats 'cause counting them would be work!!!
Here comes summer!!!!

Dan, you've done it again with some great shots! Landing backwards on the ice for the shot was well worth it, I'd say, as painful as it must have been.

We have flowers blooming & robins here, but it's not the UP.

ROBINS??? I saw a vehicle with Texas plates on it a couple weeks back.THAT is more of a sure sign of Spring than the robins. I also saw 3 eagles out on the harbor ice this morning. THOSE were even more impressive.

My rhubarb shoots are about 1" out of the ground -Spring can't be too far away. Also we are under a rabbit invasion. Mild winter was "berry, berry good" for multiplying. There may be some roasted rabbit with rhubarb sauce for Easter dinner - now wouldn't that be tasty!

I hope the melting of all the ice from up there will work it's way down here along the St.Clair River into Lake St.Clair where the water level is very low for Boater's sake!One more week & all the Marina's along the Nautical Mile here in St.Clair Shores will start to fill up for the Boating Season.

Delayed trip to Oregon when I found a big oil leak under my old beater this morning. The garage said it should be done tomorrow- so I get another day to visit with Tina. Lot's to see around here - - that is, when the fog clears.

The top one looks about the size of the one that sank the Titanic.

It looks like not too long and the mosquitoes will be back.

Hi Jeff, Hope all is well on your side of the world. You may not be aware of this, but we used one of your photos for Wallpaper of the Week - one which did not even appear on the daily Pasty Cam, but was just too good to pass up before winter is gone.

Greta: Roasted rabbit with rhubarb sauce sounds wonderful! My husband hunted rabbits several years ago, but I couldn't master cooking them so he had to give it up.
