No doubt about it - Pasty Cam is going to the dawgs today - and I love them!

By RJ MN on Friday, March 21, 2003 - 08:55 pm:

Just going for a little spin to nose around a bit

By Toivo, wet in Washington on Friday, March 21, 2003 - 08:57 pm:

Lift Bridge
I see on the Bridge Cam tonight that its wet back in the Copper Country, too. Rainy and windy here in Hoquiam. The door of my Weekly Rate motel room doesn't close real tight, given me kind of a chill. Goin over to Tina's place in a few minutes, when she gets off work. You ever notice how when you have a nap in the middle of the day, you think you slept to the next day? Wah.

Been thinkin about a buddy of mine over in Iraq. I'm sure he misses the Keweenaw as much as I do.

Nice dogs.

By Patt, mid-Michigan on Friday, March 21, 2003 - 09:14 pm:

Tovio,Nice to hear you made it there safe & sound. Have fun collecting that roll of duct tape!

By Steve the troll on Friday, March 21, 2003 - 10:49 pm:

Toivio, we are all "rooting" for you. Duct tape can join together that which no man can pull assunder. (spelling?)

By Pikkuleipa on Friday, March 21, 2003 - 11:27 pm:

Now there's a car load of good lookers!

Well said, Steve....Duct Tape Forever!!

In this rutting season, when the deer thoughts of “old dogs” turn to...(ahem, well)…amorous hints may be found on the ancient wall of this synagogue:

So Jack sez to Toivo, he sez, "What did the corniche carpenter say to the finish carpenter when their perennial hilaria creation-hymn spring house-clean began?":

By Greta, Ca on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 12:30 am:

I can't stop laughing at this picture. How did you get those dogs to do that? Are they out for a Sunday drive as a happy family, or is this a case of a designated driver taking friends home?
Great shot Z-man.

By Proud Yooper - MI on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 12:45 am:

Greta, designated driver, that is cute! :) They are adorable! Are the scratches in the front above the headlight made by the dogs? They probably had an accident racing to see who gets in the driver's seat. He does look happy. I love it!
Toivo, when are you coming back? Those motel rooms can be awfully expensive. Don't forget to bring the duct tape back if it isn't used up yet. You could use it to tape the door shut on that motel room of yours to keep the winds out.

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 12:50 am:

And I bet the one in the back seat is saying, "Are we there yet?"

By Greta,Ca on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 01:04 am:

Or, "I gotta go to the bathroom!"

By Alex Tiensivu on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 02:53 am:

LOL: Back to that Duct Tape again! They said they'd never let you forget that!

By Toivo, a long way from home on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 04:14 am:

I'm a step ahead of you, Proud Yooper. After we said goodnight I brought some duct tape back to the room to cover this whale of a crack, and viola! its about 10 degrees warmer in here. They ought to pass out rolls of this stuff at the front desk.

Don't know how long this trip will last. For years I suspected I would find a nice lady and settle down, but not before I seen a lot more of the U.S. of A. Tonight at dinner we talked about how a guy could start in the upper left-hand corner here with Washington, and work his way through state-by-state till he ended up at Florida. Then (if both still so inclined) maybe hook up in Alaska for a wedding and on to Hawaii for a honeymoon? and finally back to da U.P. for happy ever after. Sounds like a plan. It would prove out whether absence makes the heart grow fonder.

They really are nice dogs.

By used to live out there too on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 05:28 am:

Toivo, have you gotten over to Carnation, or the Snoqualimae area to meet any other Finns out there yet?

By Mary Lou on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 06:54 am:

Toivo...HOLY WAH!!!.....Sounds like you'll be gone a really long time!!....can't you just skip all that travel,..... get to the point and bring Tina home with you?? We miss you!!!

By Patt mid-Michigan on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 07:25 am:

Toivo, While you are off seeing the USA (Perhaps in your CHEVROLET?) can we clone you? Though many of us have never really "met" you, through your posts on this sight, photos and your assisiting Charlie we have come to know you. And we will MISS YOU! Safe travels and may God bless whatever it is the future holds for you & Tina. Live the dream! Life is short.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 07:25 am:

Toivo, if you are serious about a nationwide tour, maybe you could do some testing for Pasty.NET in each state. We have dial-in numbers now in all 50. Give me a call, and we can work something out, maybe even selling pasties or Internet service door-to-door?

By Helen, MI on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 07:45 am:

Hey I know those out of towners from Ontonagon area! They are Smokey Dog and his sons J.R. and Bubba and they are from a swell family at that!! Great shot Z-Man,you sure know how to get a great shot of a great looking family!! I just happen to have one of their sisters!!

By Terry in Royal Oak, Mich on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 07:58 am:

These aren't the drivers in training for the Stillwaters new van are they? Can anyone tell me what the snow depth and snow bank is like along 5 Mile Point Road between Sandhills Lighthouse and Eagle River? My wife and I would like to come up next week with one of our granddaughters and we are wondering if we will have to snowshoe in? Will I be able to break the snow bank along the road to get my truck off the road? Thanks a bunch.

Who is Z-man? Years ago when we lived in Houghton, friends of my high-school-aged son nicknamed him Z-man. I never knew why. Maybe if I knew who the real Z-man was, I could figure it out. Thanks.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 09:05 am:

Z-Man is a true-blue yooper from over Ontonagon way, who slips some shots to the Pasty Cam now and then. He has a real beauty on the back cover of the 2003 Pasty Cam Calendar.

Hound dogs usually drive rabbits, but these guys dont look the type.

By Z-MAN,Ontonagon,MI on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 10:07 am:

The name Z-Man came upon me while I was serving in the U.S. Marines. My job as a quality assurance inspector for jet aircraft required my signature on many documents. So I shortened my signature to "Z".
