You may recall the year began for the Pasty Cam down on the Highland Golf Course in Escanaba. Mike Curtin sent some other shots around the snow-less town, including this neat gazebo (lower photo). The top shot is from Donn de Yampert, received over the weekend - an excellent contrast of frigid March conditions here in the U.P. The weatherman says relief is on the way, however, as we expect to move above freezing before the week is out.

I'll be happy just to see it above zero again :o)

Robins are still hopping around in our backyard. I think they are afraid to go back up north for awhile. Smart birds.

Mike's lovely picture was taken the first of the year........the snow was very slow in coming this year...BUT as Donn's lovely picture shows it did arrive along with a lot of cold weather...we received more snow than last year. The gazebo is on the shore of Lake MIchigan in Ludington Park.....some "bananabelt"!!!.....in the deep south of the U.P.

The bent over Tree sure does make you "feel' the wind but if youlook at both pictures I believe they were taken from opposite sides if you look to the right of the gazebo in the Snowless pic, you'll see the same tree bent over. This also would explain why you can't see the docks in the background

Pat, The two views are from a slightly different perspective. Notice the location of the gazebo entry: it's on the right of center in the upper photo, and left on the lower. It appers Donn's picture is looking more up the shore, not toward the water. Probably still couldn't see the docks if it was the same view as Jan 1.

Does anybody know what all the posts and railings are in the lower shot? Perhaps a marina?

The top picture looks like a scene from Dr. Zhivago. Beautiful!

Kudos on the dual season depicton of said park. It basically undeniably infuses the diverse conditions that can be discovered in the same season indeed. Another inimitable attribute to our treasured land, so to speak.

Looks frigid, but what a beautiful picture! Saturday we had some wonderful weather here in Oklahoma City, temps in the mid 70's I commented on how I felt bad for people who still have snow. I noticed yesterday we have tulips coming up and some of the daffodils have blossomed already.The robins were wandering around the back yard Saturday, I tryed to tell them they needed to head up north to usher in spring but dont know if they were listening. Any way I do hope spring arrives soon for Michigan as Im sure all of you are so very ready for it!

Ludington Park brings back some good memories. My grandpa would always take me there when we came up to visit. I remember one time my cousin had climbed up that slide that looked like a rocket ship (before they re-did the playground) and wouldn't come down, so my grandpa had to climb up after him, by the time grandpa got to the top, my cousin had slid down and started throwing sand on the bottom of the slide, my grandpa, not wanting to climb back down, took the slide and as soon as he hit the sand on the bottom, his legs went up in the air and he landed on his bottom. My grandma laughed so hard she almost fell over!

Today I'm a little miffed with Michigan.

I left Cincinnati for Michigan on Friday night. On Sunday it was 68 in Cincinnati. Divide that by 10 for what I endured in MI.

Bad choice on my part!

Nice picture. A trip home (to Escanaba) is not complete without a drive through Ludington Park, and Don's picture makes it almost like a trip home - except 8 hours shorter, each way.

I'm confused. If I lived in Cinti. (which I did in 1960), and it was 68 degrees with no snow, and I got to Michigan and it was 6.8 degrees with lots of snow, I'd think that was great! I guess it's all a matter of outlook.

You can't see the dock piers because they are taken down for the winter. Ludington Park is a really nice place. Thanx, Mike and Donn for the views. Oh, yes, the Highland Golf Course is about 6 or 8 miles west of Esky, just past Hyde. There is a golf course in Esky, too, the Country Club.

I live here and it is time for some warmer weather. This has been a very cold winter! It has been long and cold, I do not know how us people up here do it! We are very tuff people, we can drive and live through all this bad weather! Our kids go to school in some really bad weather. Because the state only allows 2 days for the weather LOL funny. I would never live anyway else God Bless the UP!

Just noticed, you can see those dock piers in Donn's later pic. The white building is the old Harbormaster's office. There's a new one now. You can just make out the gazebo across the street.

There is hope of spring arriving in the U.P. A friend who lives in Gwinn has been feeding three robins in her yard for over a week! We finally have measurable snow here on the edge of the Saginaw Valley. It has been a cold, dry winter. Enjoyed the photo, Donn. Nice to be reminded what REAL snow looks like!!!

Beautiful picture!! Love that icy, winter blue tint with just a touch of warmth from the glow of the gazebo lights. Makes me feel nice and cozy in my nice warm house. My new winter wallpaper. I'm not quite ready for spring yet. Too soon to give up the late in coming ski season! Thanks, Donn!

how funny! we just got dumped on today...yesterday..i don't know though i was sleeping. i woke up..looked outside. it was white, and half a foot of snow on the ground. no plows out either..this was at 6pm.
