By RJ St.Paul on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 10:56 am:

WOW ! ! ! One word describes it all.

By Carole on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 10:56 am:

The first page indicates that Taka is back with HIS buddies. I thought that Taka is a SHE.

By me on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:01 am:

"with his budies" typo!

By Chris, IL on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:08 am:

Yeah, I thought Taka was a she......

By Billy Slimp, Arlington TX on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:08 am:

By Karen P, MN on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:14 am:

Double WOW, one for each picture! I'm making the second my desktop of the week.

By Proud Yooper - MI on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:27 am:

WOW is right! The second pic has also become my desktop. I get the chills looking at it tho' --Brrrrr! Awesome pictures.

By Mr. Wheatman, South end on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:28 am:

That would be a "shoe in" for a WOW indeed. The crystalline structures are analogous to a stalagmite formation one would basically find in an actual underground grotto. Kudos on aquiring the photo.

I was lucky to have grown up in Hubbell and made many trips to the falls, bluffs and dam..Opie had nothing on us....

By cal, Oshkosh WI on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:46 am:

First picture is on my desktop. It gives better perspective of the size. I like to remind people around here how tough we Yoopers are.

By jack, coeur d alene, id on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:46 am:

is that someone that is trying to climb down (or up) at the top of the falls in the first picture?

By fy on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 11:57 am:

Looks like that someone is the anchor for the rope laying on the frozen waterfall. The easiest way in to the gorge, since the side walls are probably nothing but bottomless snowdrifts.

By jerry,mi on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 12:15 pm:

liked the 2nd pic it awesome also like the pic last week of welcome to Houghton they are awesome

By pikkuleipa on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 12:27 pm:

Great pics, Taka! For something frozen solid it feels like an action photo.

Can't wait to see where his pastycam is headed next!

By Taka @ MTU on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 01:43 pm:

Thanks people. I just wanted to remind that the 2nd photo is Not mine. It's Ryan's photo.

Beautiful photos, but they bring out the mother in me. I wanted to scream "Don't you know you could get killed doing that?" Sorry...I raised 3 sons and my nerves are still on edge!!! Have fun!

By Karen P. MN on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 02:36 pm:

Ryan Rizor gets lots of kudos for the perspective he got in the second picture. Awesome. Thanks Taka for giving praise where it is due.

By JAD, Oskar, MI on Thursday, February 27, 2003 - 02:45 pm:

Either one should be a candidate for calendar 2004.

ooops...great pic Ryan!
Just figured Taka was laying down for the second.

By Toivo from Toivola on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 12:45 am:

Though I have never met Taka, I've always been under the impression Taka is a male.

Set us straight, Taka - - Are you a guy or a girl?

- - and while we're at it, which is Kelly Wenberg?

By Ken from da UP on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 12:45 am:

Hei, Taka, Kiitos oikean paljon! (Thank you very much! in Finnish.) I love those falls, all three sets. Must've been fun getting there this time of the year. Good thing our moms didn't know where we were ALL the time! :o)
Hello again, Ed.

By Ken from da UP on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 12:48 am:

Oops, didn't mean to forget your part, Ryan.

By Lily on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 08:16 am:

Ryan, I am truly awestricken with your photo. I enjoy hiking the trail near the falls in the Summer and Fall, but I have never been there in the Winter. Awesome (the real meaning of the word)!

By Taka @ MTU on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 08:30 am:

hm.. me guy or girl? well, I will answer to that question next time =)

By cak on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 10:00 am:

Guess I was wrong. See Cam notes for August 3rd, 2002, Charlie refers to Taka as HE.

By Rachel, Hancock MI on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 01:48 pm:

Amazing! Beautifull pictures, beautifull falls. I have allways enjoyed them but never seen them in the winter. Wow!!
