I don't know where this was photographed, if it is the result of a waves along the shore or somebody's garden hose twice a day for a week. But I do know it was taken by Donn de Yampert, among a whole pile of digital pics which Charlie bequeathed to me before he left on vacation.

All week long Charlie's Challenger/Columbia tribute song has been stuck in my head. In case you missed it last Sunday, here is the Real Audio version, or you can download the MP3. (And here are the lyrics.)While Charlie did an OK job, I would really like to hear Willy Nelson sing the song. Anybody have Willy's email address?

I'm doing another album this Summer. I'd put that song on it in a heartbeat. I also can't get it out of my mind. Both because of what the words say, and also because of the amazing talent Charlie has!

I also listened to the song. It was great! I wasn't aware that we had such a talented group up there in the frozen Copper Country.

I find myself singing parts of Charlie's song from time to time. It does leave an impression on you. The above picture is really neat!

Another AWESOME Picture! I look forward each day to the beautiful scenery up there.

Photograph was taken in Rock, MI., just off the side of M35 at the Pepin residence.
Thank you,
Donn

Kinda Interesting to see the above picture. Was born and raised about 6 miles east of Rock and went to school there for many years. Remember seeing things like that when I was a Kid growing up there. Thanks Donn for the picture.

THIS IS PRICELESS:

As a trucker stops for a red light, a person from the South catches up. She jumps out of her car, runs up to his truck, and knocks on the door. The trucker lowers
the window, and she says "Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of
your load." The trucker ignores her and proceeds down the street.

When the truck stops for another red light, the Southern girl catches up again.
She jumps out of her car, runs up and knocks on the door. Again, the trucker
lowers the window. As if they've never spoken, the blonde says brightly, "Hi
my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!" Shaking his head,
the trucker ignores her again and continues down the street.

At the third red light, the same thing happens again. All out of breath, the
girl from the South gets out of her car, runs up, knocks on the truck door. The trucker lowers the window. Again she says "Hi, my name is Heather, and you are
losing some of your load!"

When the light turns green the trucker revs up and races to the next light.
When he stops this time, he hurriedly gets out of the truck, and runs back
to the Southern girl. He knocks on her window, and as she lowers it, he says...

"Hi, my name is Kevin, it's Winter in the Keweenaw and I'm driving the SALT
TRUCK.

Alex, that is a great one! Thanks for sharing it.
Donn, I noticed how you answer people's questions and/or politely thank them. I think that is very kind of you. It is nice when someone takes the time to make a comment or thank someone instead of ignoring their postings. I want to thank you for the beautiful pictures that you have taken and share with us. Have a good day!

Tech's man-made statues are very impressive, to be sure, but fail in comparison to "Nature-made" sculptures such as this and on Superiors shores.

This seems to be a slow day for postings. Busy weekend?

I am a couple of days late with this but I would like to say the new bridge cam pictures are just super! I have one on my wallpaper right now. The hardest thing about the pasty cam is deciding which picture to use as my wallpaper. Keep up the good work!

By Gordy, IL on Saturday, February 15, 2003 - 10:49 pm:

I did the samething with the new Bridge Cam, makes a really nice wallpaper, love that new large view. Makes me lonely for the UP though, maybe someday it will be home again. Hopefully will be making a trip up next month. WOOHOO!!!

betcha everyone was at the carnival ......

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 12:22 am:

The most amazing thing is that in three months or so that coat of white will be replaced by a thin dress of green! (Although with another night of near zero temps here in Pinckney I'm beginning to have my doubts!)

By ILMHitCC on Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 01:36 am:

The days are getting longer so quickly, it seems. You'll have to extend the bridge-cam time soon or we'll miss the dusk completely. That's my favorite time, btw, just before the sky moves from deep blue to black (even with the cloud cover) that sets off the lights so beautifully - especially with the new cam!

By pegg, fla on Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 09:48 am:

Dear Mr. No-Snow Tennissneaker, holy wa, that was aweful. I'll try not to be overly offended. If you saw my long blond hair you would know why.
Fran, I need your help here...

By Dark Haired Alex on Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 11:21 am:

Uh-oh... I'm in trouble now!!!!!!!! (Actually, it WAS a blonde joke, and I saw I left ONE blonde in there which was supposed to have been changed to Southern Girl. Oops!)

By Sue in Alabama on Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 02:39 pm:

It seems these two Yoopers were visiting Alabama when they came to the city limits of Oneonta. They had no idea how to pronounce it, so when they stopped to get a cup of coffee they asked the waitress, "How do you say the name of this place?" She very carefully and slowly said, "Burg-er King."

I miss the night shots of the bridge cam. Wish it would go back to 24 hour coverage.
