Between white-outs, Rob Wetton got a glimpse of the way snows sticks to tree trunks on the windy side. I see on my Pasty Cam wall calendar that Winter Carnival at Michigan Tech begins a week from tomorrow. I'm sure the snow statue builders have plenty to use in their preparations.

I also see that Rob took February's photo in this years calendar: a finely detailed hillside view around Quincy Mine. That is certainly a picture suitable for framing. By the way, the price on the Pasty Cam 2003 calendar was just reduced, in time for your Valentine's Day pasty order next week.

The weather prevented us from shipping yesterday's pasty orders from Calumet - a rare occurance. Looks like traffic should return to normal today. Have a good one.

During the long spells when we have clouds and snow every day, I so crave the sun. But, without the clouds to keep what little warmth there is close to earth, sunny days mean bitter cold. What a dilemma! Today is supposed to be cloudy with light snow. It may even warm up to 15F. Rob, thank you for the wonderful picture.

By Steve, Pittsburgh on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 08:48 am:

How I miss the snowy stretches of the upper midwest Karen.

Pittsburgh has such "constipated" weather during the winter months. Never sunny, always cloudy, hardly ever precipitates.
(this winter the exception)

hey charlie, whats the update on the van situation?

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 09:50 am:

I'll try to get a figure later today. At last check we are about half way toward getting a new resident van.

Haven't seen a White-Out in years. Thanks for the picture. It seems that we would get a number of those things back in the 1950's and 60's.

Greetings from Rockford, Il. Love listening to your snow reports and seeing pictures of the white stuff. Last night, the local weatherman said our grand accumulation for this season is currently 8 inches, 17 inches below normal for this time of year. Send some of that snow, down here, hey?

By sorebones on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 12:25 pm:

Though the visibility was so-so coming through Houghton/Hancock, it's a perfect day to ride once you get up towards Copper Harbor! Time for a nice hot lunch at the Mariner and then up Brockway we go! What better way to spend a Wednesday afternoon? Gotta take advantage of yesterday's snow blast, eh? It's good to be back!
Btw, great pic. Moody and relaxing.

By K.Kidd Lodi, Ca on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 12:36 pm:

Hello from Lodi Ca.
I want to thank the people at Pasty central for getting us our order last week.
Here in California the 5th graders are required to do a State report for half of their Social Studies grade. Since we are relocated Michigander's my daughter picked Mich. as her state. The Pasty's were part of her extra credit.
We divided them up so that each child in the class could get a taste. Plus my daughter told the history of the pasty. I made sure that i put back a couple for us for dinner. The kids in the class loved the pasty's, and we enjoyed them for dinner that night.
Thank's again, By the way she recieved an "A" on her report.

My dad (Addison) is Bob Wettons neighbor in the summer out on the Boot Jack Rd. He is in the lower peninsula during the winter. He wants to say hello, and wonders if he can get Bob's email address? Is "Rob" Bob? Son?

By Greta, Ca on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 02:13 pm:

BEAUTIFUL picture!!! Thank you!

By S.S.I.S.I.L.L.M on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 02:24 pm:

Genevieve,
Here are two e-mails addresses.
rcwetton@chartermi.net
rwwetton@portup.com

One of them should be his.
Good luck

Genevieve,
There's only one Addison that I know and it's got to be him. He spent his summers, when he was young, up in Calumet with his Uncle Art and Aunt Ida. Now I'm talking in the 1930's. I played with him. I lived across the railroad tracks. Say, Hi to him and your Mom. Hope they are well. I am. They'll know who I am.

By SCFinn on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 04:47 pm:

K.Kidd - What a great idea about the pasties! None of my kids picked Michigan in 5th grade, unfortunately, even though we spend summers there and they know so much about the state. I was surprised at their choices, until my son explained that they had to draw a map of their state. Here I was thinking he picked Colorado because of the Rockies! Turns out my daughter had the same idea, but wasn't about to admit it. The UP is still their favorite place to be, though.

By KLS, Az on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 09:29 pm:

It might be warm enought here to open my doors during the day, but the UP has one thing over Arizona - checked my grocery slip last week, and water was one third of the total bill!

By Ken from da UP on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 09:54 pm:

Hei, Rob, We got some of that down here in Delta County, too. My snowplow man hasn't had to be here all winter, and now twice in three days! :o) Big piles of the stuff here now. Plus the snow scoop got a little workout, too. I finally was able to bank up the foundation. The sun feels good when it's out, though. Spring is coming!!

By Jack Texas nee Oscoda MI on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 11:15 pm:

Jack in Texas I have a problem here talking about a UperScooper to the rest of these Winter Texans and would like to see a picture or two of one and maybe in operation

By Judy Brown-Kurnik Chesaning MI on Thursday, February 6, 2003 - 12:15 am:

Thanks for the snow photo. We can see the lawns here in Chesaning. Got heavy rain earlier in the week. You don't have to shovel it, but it is not pretty!!!

By Chuck Clarkston, Mi on Thursday, February 6, 2003 - 06:36 am:

Jack, Check out Silver Bear Mfg on Pasty Central Home Page. There is a picture of some Yooper Scoopers.

By Kathie, SD on Thursday, February 6, 2003 - 09:43 am:

Hello from Freeman, South Dakota. This website is a day brightener for me. Thanks for all the great pictures and I enjoy reading all the messages too. We lived in Pelkie for 6 years and hope to return to the area some day. This website keeps me in touch with the area and makes me feel closer to the UP. Thanks so much.

By Kim, MI on Thursday, February 6, 2003 - 11:18 am:

Hi all!

I'm not from the U.P. but I absolutely love it up there. I'm a troll - living under the bridge haha. I go up to God's country as often as possible. The family has a place in Petoskey - wonderful place but no where near the snow you folks have, even less at home in the Detroit area. Keep warm!

By Mr. Wheatman, South end on Thursday, February 6, 2003 - 01:04 pm:

Obligatory Kudos are in order for the pictures. Keep up the good work indeed!!

By Larry Krayer, Ft. Wayne, IN. on Thursday, February 6, 2003 - 03:08 pm:

Marquett photographers, What dose Harlows wooden man look like in the winter. I saw it in the summer but I sure would like to see him with show around over him. That is if you can find him.

By Karen-Washington State on Friday, February 7, 2003 - 04:06 am:

Alright, this is a favorite picture of mine. Simply beautiful, wish I were there, but I'm here in the Pacific Northwest and it is shining Sun here. That's right sunny and fairly warm. I was able to weed alot today. Doesn't that seem unbelieveable? My back is aching and the legs, it isn't natural for a Michigander to be about these chores so early in winter is it? Karen
