I have never sent a picture to your site before, but have visited it often since my friend Taka showed it to me last summer. The pictures are fantastic.

We were near Keweenaw Bay with some friends and we went snowshoeing, down into Sturgeon River (until the ice became to thin!) and also into the forest. It was cold (-4 F), but wonderful with the sun shining brightly.

That looks like fun! Glad you got out and enjoyed a beautiful Keweenaw day!

Wow what great action shots!! It is great to see an adult play. That is what more people need to do is to just get out and do it! AH, Sturgeon River what a beautiful spot to play in. Down here in da Swamps of Menominee we too can go out and play today. The snow is falling heavily.

Here we are in Dickinson County on a Monday am and we have had a few inches of snow, a mere "flurry" to folks that live in the Copper Country. Not here. All the schools are closed and as the day goes on, probably a lot of other activities will also be postponed or called off. If we ever really have a "major" snow event (which has never happened during the 30 years we have lived here in Kingsford) I think the whole area would be paralyzed. Oh well, time to break out my vintage Finn Snow Blower (read snow scoop).

Did Ryan take the pictures, or is he the athlete/crazy guy?

I recognize those snow shoes, are they Walmart Chinooks. I just got a pair to help me stay above ground photographing in the woods.

The guy in the picture is my friend Mike. He is very crazy, to say the least. I was busy taking shots, so fortunately I did not have to jump the cliff!

Snowshoeing is the same as being 11 months pregnant.

I hear ya Melissa, no sun and no snow here in Lansing----living here in the city was a big change for me, I miss so much about the U.P.- I dont think I realized how lucky I was to live in the beauty of the U.P. until I left-

From a lower Michigander...I absolutely LOVE the "Pasty.com" site...thank you so much. We have always loved the U.P., having spent several summers in the Crystal Falls area and traveling all over in the U.P. When I ran across this site (actually someone posted the site location on the "Leland Report")I was thrilled...how can I ever say Thank You for sharing these wonderful pictures of year round life from the part of Michigan our heart longs for.

God bless each who share such wonderful pictures and those who maintain this wonderful site.

To have landed in that position from the photographs he would have to have turned 180 degrees so to make it short he would have landed backwards and gone down right now and the impact position of the feet should be tilted the opposite way, down in the back rising on a slope to the origional snow impact area, as they are they are down in front rising to the back that suggest's to me that he stood stationary and decided to fall backwards to make a good staged photo. I could be wrong and have been many times before.

Naomi, I know what you mean. I miss the quiet and the beauty of the UP every day! Plus it doesn't snow here, and I love snow!

To DJB-MI, as I look at it closer, I do belive you are right.

Just to clarify. Those are three different stunts. The first one is me jumping off the edge. The second is me doing it again. The third is me trying to jump onto a hay bale and I fell short and fell backwards landing in a big pile of powder. Gotta love the U.P. ------Mike

A frequent poster to this board, Calumet native, true friend, and all around good guy passed away this afternoon unexpectedly in his home in Green Bay. Robert J Forsberg, who posted here several times under the name "Bob in GB." or "Bob GB".
His presense will be a huge loss to all who knew him. His kindness and humor would abound when he would enter a room would overwhelm anyone.
We'll all miss ya kid !!!

To Pete in Wi--Are you Pete Dube? I'm asking because I just talked to Harriet's sister Margaret and she was asking if that was your name. She and her husband Larry are good friends of mine. Harriet just sold the bar on January 27th and is currently residing in L'Anse. That's all the info I have.

Okay...you guys are finally getting snow in the southern u.p. area. So how much has it snowed today in the Crystal Falls/Iron River area?

Hey you people in the U.P. send alot of that snow out West, we need it. I would love to be cross country sking or snow shoeing. Come on don't be selfish, were waiting.

To Pete: The Drift Inn changed hands at midnight, January 31st. Harriet is now living with her son, John, in Aura, outside of L'Anse. She will be missed by her many loyal patrons, including me.
