I know the feeling, Lily. Some days it seems you're up to your eyeballs in adversity. But you just keep moving forward. Keep your head up, eyes fixed on your goal, and you'll make it through.

Anyone who has ever had a beagle knows how hard they try. Good picture.

By Ned, Kingsford. on Thursday, January 30, 2003 - 09:43 pm:

Does anybody know what has happened to the Daily Mining Gazette web site. It will not open up for me.

By P&G in TN on Thursday, January 30, 2003 - 09:47 pm:

Groundhog Day, enter it we
must, though the event lifts
a long-vanished ruff of
hair on our nape.
-a day of disturbance, of
mystery, an inviolate barrier
across which we must pass.

By FC MI on Thursday, January 30, 2003 - 09:55 pm:

Ned - Try mininggazette and not dailymininggazette. I had the same problem until I typed in just mininggazette. Good luck! I opened mine just now.

hello everyone in the Copper Country,

I think that beagle should have had a snowmobile

but it probably should have stayed in the house!

Looks like Lily needs some snowshoes from Iversons. Hope she made it to her destination ok.

Wouldn't this picture make a great jigsaw puzzle? I love it!

One cool puppy

By froggy on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 08:43 am:

Gotta love those beagles. Lots of heart. Had one for twelve years. Never had to keep him in a pen or tied. He'd wander over to the neighbors (to mooch), but stayed pretty close to home. He went through the thin ice one day and I almost lost him. After that, he wouldnt go to the woods without someone with him. Guess he was smart as well as loyal.

My Family's Dachsund,Bart, has that same handi cap. He developed a porpoise like lope to navigate the deep stuff.

By j, illinois on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 08:57 am:

One of my roommates, while I was going to Michigan Tech, had a blond beagle. He called it Dunkin-unkinin. A Finnish Beagle I guess. He was quite a character.

By Alex Tiensivu, Georgia on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 09:10 am:

He should be glad he's not a Bulldog! Now, THAT would be a REAL problem!

By Kate, CA on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 10:23 am:

Good thing Lily's not a Corgi. Now there's a low
rider. Ahhhhh, fresh snow pictures....that's what
I wanted to see. Thanks, Charlie, did my heart
good.

HAVING BEEN STUCK IN LOPER LAND FOR OVER 20 YEARS THIS WEB SITE HAS KEPT ME GOING! I GET SO HOMESICK IT HURTS! WILL RETIRE IN 9!! THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR MAKING MY DAYS BRIGHTER.

By Jay F. on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 12:11 pm:

Picture info: Lily was a stray 4 year old so-called "13 Inch" Beagle. She was found 4 Decembers ago as a tiny pup one dark morning on a snowbank. She had been left there. Gwen Hooper brought her to her's and my farm where Lily is now on constant perimeter patrol looking for interlopers.

In the distant background one can see the snow-capped Chassell Township water tank which holds 300,000 gallons of water and just to it's left is the smaller chlorination plant for this spring-fed system whose water originates on the LaTendresse cattle farm (formerly the Twin Elm Dairy Farm) just north of our 40 and abutting the Paradise Road. The spring averages about 95,000 gallons per day flow rate.

To think, that I had just plowed the day before ...

By froggy on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 12:42 pm:

Jay- looks like Lilly takes her job seriously! Thanks for the background story.

By Jean, Devon , England on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 02:41 pm:

I suppose this is the canine version of polar bear diving. I'm looking at the mtu website almost every day to watch the progress of the snow statues. All this stuff to do with snow and ice is a real eye-opener for me. I'm going to find out about Groundhog Day now (I've seen the film)

By Erika Erkkila on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 06:30 pm:

We have a beagle named Trigger. Unfortunately, we keep him in a pen because once he gets the scent of a rabbit he is GONE! He eventually comes back looking for his warm house and lots of food. Sometimes we let him out to make his way through the snow in the yard and he's easier to keep track of. Sure wish we could let him roam the yard with the other pooch we have.
Lily looks like a beauty.

I agree with Kate from California. GREAT snow picture! I love the "live" look with the flakes coming down. They look like large and fluffy ones. It does me good to see snow in the winter. (It was in the 90's inland here yesterday, but 70's along the coast) Thanks for the cooling, beautiful shot. And what an adorable dog!

By jmh on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 - 07:58 pm:

I cannot believe I happened upon a photo of a beagle romping when my brother's dear beagle died yesterday - hit by a car! My sis in law is devastated but I will forward this photo to comfort her. God bless this beagle!

This is one of the best pictures you have
featured. I just love it. I'm a dog lover
and got a kick out of seeing this Beagle
trudging through the snow.
