Beth Jukuri is a rural mail carrier with a route from Chassell to Tapiola, so she sees more than her share of poor driving conditions, especially in the winter months. Now granted, even though the calendar says it is still fall, we are definitely in the throes of winter here UP North.
The pictures here today from Beth, give you an idea of a typical wintry day on the route, complete with the snow piled high on the mailboxes she delivers to. A rural carrier like Beth, drives all the country back roads to bring your mail, so she encounters plenty of blowing and drifting along the way. One minute you can barely see where the road is, the next it's sunny and clear, then before you know it, the visibility is next to nothing once again. In some places, she may have to follow someone else's ruts in the snow, in others she may be the first vehicle through the drifted snow. Beth says she is grateful for her Jeep, which gets her and the mail through each day!

Nice pix...I experienced white-out snow squalls last evening which made for a tricky commute home. Supposed to reach 50 degrees by Monday...here we go again.

Thanks for keeping the mail moving. You get to deliver a lot of joy to people this time of the year. I do feel that the only one that should be out and about in those wintry conditions is a stout fellow with reindeer. Beth, I had a nice surprise visit from your husband and son a couple days ago. It was nice to see them again.

Hi Looks like being a mail carrier in the UP takes some sisu. I can't help contrast with my downstate mail carrier last winter, who wanted a long shovelled area around the mailbox.

I share Shirley's and Duane's sentiment about the fine job that our mail carriers do delivering our mail. I know that it is often referred to as snail mail but I have never received electronic mail that brings more joy to my day than 'snail mail'. I always look forward to walking out to my mailbox to get the surprise of the day.

As a former Buffalonian you can be glad you live in Da UP. At least you have some place to put it when you clear the drive and I do not mean in the street. After all 6 feet in one storm would put even Da UP on the way to a record year.

Just saw on the TV6 News that Calumet has 53-inches on the ground.
