The current weather has been snow showers off and on with measurable inches in some areas around the U.P., but not on the day Bob Gilreath went this late fall boat ride to check out the cliffs in the Freda area. Their route that day, took them along the Keweenaw shoreline, from North Entry, past Freda, heading southwest to the Graveraet River.
Bob said that he's lived here in the Copper Country for 38 years and never knew until this recent boat trip, that we have similar scenery to the Pictured Rocks area. Right there on the north shore…waterfalls, caves and cliffs, just not as high as those near Munising. Looks like this would be a good place to do some exploring with kayaks next summer!
Heavy snow in the forecast for this afternoon. The turn to harsh November weather reminds us of that fateful day 39 years ago, and the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald

Amen, Gary!

Beautiful pictures, the waters are much calmer than the night of Nov. 10, 1975. Sincere condolences to the families and friends of the crew aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald on this night they bravely lost their lives.

Nice pics and I think they will be dressed in white soon, if not already.

I am sorry to see that the Pasty cam for Calumet's 5th Street hasn't been working for some time again. I usually check out Calumet when I check out the pasty cam pictures. I wonder why it hasn't been working and if someone is planning to fix it soon. It is always comforting to see the pictures from Calumet. I sure miss that area.

I will always remember this date, when the Edmund Fitzgerald went down and all her souls perished.
It looks like Tuesday will see some large waves pounding the Keweenaw's north shoreline. From MarineTraffic.com it looks like the Big Lake is fairly empty tonight with a few Lakers taking refuge along the north shore. I hope everyone stays safe but we could use some pictures of tomorrow's shoreline action.

Awesome!! I've not seen Freda from this side. Thoroughly enjoyed them.
God bless the men and their families from the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Very interesting photos. I have never seen Freda from the water before.

A very big salute to all of the Veterans on their day today. Thank you..............
By Tom (Tom) on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 - 11:12 am:
As a veteran I am getting tired of people saying, "thank you for your service." It was kind nice years ago when it began but now it is meaningless. Like the "have a nice day" comment. Just an automatic comment. Some days I don't wear my cap with the USAF just because I don't want someone making that comment any more.
By FJL (Langoman) on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 - 11:58 am:
Sorry Tom. Didn't mean to irritate you. I thought that's what Veteran's day was all about.....

Wow!! It looks like you guys are getting clobbered up there! After looking at John Dee's live cams, looks like you already have about 1 foot of snow already. Bridge cam looks like there's a white out. Winter has begun.

TO FJL;..... you keep on saying it to every veteran you possibly can.....it sounds like Tom enjoyed it 'years ago' when it started, so let this generation, if you will, enjoy it now, because they are the ones who are protecting Tom and all of us and I Thank each and every veteran today...Thank You. ;O)

My husband always appreciated that comment, Tom ~ he would pay the same compliment to others. It was especially nice to hear nowadays.

Tom, I can understand your thoughts. To some, they just want to move on. My dad served WWII 2nd Lt. Army, he was one who felt he proudly served his Country, but more importantly his #1 call to duty was an exceptional dad and provider.
