Michigan Technological University unveiled a new husky statue this week and thanks to Bob Gilreath, we get to attend the event, too. It looks like quite a crowd was gathered to watch the unveiling of the new 1,600 pound bronze statue that was made possible by over 840 donors and sits in Husky Plaza on campus.
This plaza is part of the Alumni Way project to connect the campus and give donors and alumni an opportunity to contribute. The husky statue stands atop a huge boulder that was found in Baraga County and is surrounded by pavers that were available for purchase and bear up to three lines of text honoring or remembering someone or just putting the donor's name down in campus history. The nine foot tall husky replica is located at the west entrance to campus, between the Electrical Energy Resource Center and the Van Pelt and Opie Library.
Even Blizzard T. Husky was on hand for the event. How many of you know what Blizzard's middle initial stands for?

WOW! That's a big doggie! ;>
I'm going to guess that the "T." stands for "The"?

That's an impressive and very personable statue! It will quickly become a very beloved icon of Tech. Can't wait to see it in person.
