The Keweenaw County Historical Society is a busy group. They hold Adventures in History events throughout the summer months on various dates and times. Today we have a report from Ginny Jamison on the last of the events for this season. The photos are compliments of Jack Marta.
" Attached are some photos of our last Adventures in History event of the year which was making Cider at Central with apples from the heritage apple trees. In spite of the rain and snow over 80 people attended and gallons of cider were made.
The restored former doctor's house for the Central Mine was warm and cozy with the heat from the antique wood stove in the kitchen. Janet Coponen and her daughter Renee made and baked cinnamon rolls all day in the oven of the wood stove. Break time was a good time to warm up and enjoy the fresh, warm bakery.
Many volunteers from the Keweenaw County Historical Society made it the best cider event ever."
Even though the folks had to bundle up against the weather, it looks like a good time was had by all during the process of making cider. I can almost feel the heat of that antique wood stove from Ginny's description, not to mention the smell of those cinnamon rolls coming out of the wood stove oven to help keep the worker's warm and nourished to finish the cider. YUM!
