E. Neil Harri doesn't mess around when he decides to take a color tour. When he goes, he covers plenty of miles piloting his plane, this time over the western end of the U.P.
The places we're flying over here today begin with the Three Lakes area in Baraga County. Then a close-up view of the color combinations in the Ironwood area. Next you see the familiar Lake of the Clouds in the Porkies. The fourth flyover photo was snapped south of Bessmer and Wakefield. I don't know what river that is winding around there, maybe someone will help me out with that information.
Continuing on, Neil said the fifth and sixth photos are from the Gogebic County area. I especially like the sixth shot with that clump of color in the middle. Finally, Neil takes us right over the top of Mt. Arvon in the L'Anse area. Quite colorful UP there!
So, how's that for covering a good portion of the U.P. in one giant swoop? It sure gives you a good perspective of the color situation, ranging from full color exploding, to just getting there in the color department.
I want to leave you with a quote from George Burns that I recently came across and thought it was a beautiful way to describe fall: "How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days."

The pictures are gorgeous! Wish I were there. Could the river be the Black River?

I like the one that is a 'dump of color'.

Fantastic pix! Wish I could be there, but I'm busy taking care of the 1040 procrastinators (including myself) :-( Maybe I'll get UP there after Oct. 15th...if there is any color left.

Beautiful autumn color picts, thank you. It is interesting the way the Three Lakes line up; are they natural lakes or are they made by dams? Are they publicly accessible?
By fy1 (Formeryooper1) on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 - 05:35 pm:
The 5th picture is Three Lakes also. Yes there is public access to Lake Ruth, don't know if there is to the other two.

Good eye fy1 it is Three Lakes in the 5th pic, public access to Beaufort is at the campground. The bridge by the campground is still out so to get to the beach/campground you must go by the access from "town".
