Taana Kalliainen is a member of the Copper Country Trails Riding Club and always looks forward to their annual weekend ride where the members spend the weekend touring on horseback, play cribbage and sharing good food.

This year's ride took the group through the already changing colors here in the Keweenaw and up to the top of Mt. Ripley. You can see from Taana's photos that in places the colors have popped out more than others. From on top the ski hill looking out over the Portage Lift Bridge and Houghton, there was some change in the leaves, but not anywhere near peak color time yet.

All over the Copper Country the leaves are turning and it's amazing to see how quickly in some area and how much slower in others. So, if you're coming for a color tour, you better make plans to come UP soon!

These are the most amazing photos that I can relate with! I have had horses 54 of my 58 years of my life. I feel very fortunate to have this gift that I was able to pass on to my daughter and now my grandson will have horses in his life as well.

Gorgeous reds and oranges with the greens in today's photos! These are my favorite fall colors, the reds, while there are still greens around for contrast. It looks like a great autumn for colors in the Keweenaw this year! Thank you, Taana and Mary!

Great ride, Taana!

Wearing hard hats while horseback riding is probably a very good idea ~ my sister got 'thrown' from her horse many years ago and suffered a concussion.

Hi
That looks like a wonderful way to do a color tour. You can rubberneck more safely on a horse than if you're driving a car. It is also appealing to let the horse make the climb to the top of the hill instead of toiling up it on foot.

Note differnt species of trees grow in differnt habitats; also, the lake can affect the climate near it. Both of those could explain differnces in color at different locations.
