Here in the Keweenaw, we experienced a September Nor'easter on Wednesday, with monsoon like rains and high winds. When the winds are gusting like they were in this storm, Lake Superior gets extremely stirred up and shows off the power contained in her ocean-like waters. She is labeled a lake, but you normally don't see 15-plus foot waves on a lake, so that's why Lady Superior is compared to that of an ocean, rather than a lake.
Today's photos are testament to that, showing the raw power that this "lake" displays when the winds are whipping her up into what you see here in Donica Hope Dravillas and Alicia Koski Marshall's photos.
The first four photos were snapped by Donica, who is an artist and full time resident in Copper Harbor. She mentioned on the PrOjEcT 49918 Facebook page, that Lake Superior was "absolutely beautiful…powerful and impressive to stand next to." Be sure to visit the Facebook page by clicking on the previous link, where you'll see more photos from Copper Harbor and can purchase any that catch your eye.
The bottom two photos were snapped by Alicia at the Sunset Bay RV Resort and Campground. She said that the tourists were in awe over the storm and that the sustained winds brought debris into the harbor there, destroying the boat launch in the process. One tent was also lost to the high winds. To quote Alicia, "About the only good thing to come out of the storm, is the fact that it stirred up a whole bunch of new rocks to be picked."
So, all you agate hunters better get out there when the waves subside to a safe level again. A big thank you to Donica and Alicia for braving the storm to bring it to us here on the Pasty Cam.

Down here in my area Lake Michigan was pretty agitated the other day when we had 60mph winds, but I doubt that it was quite as impressive as Superior in these photos. WOW!

Standing on the shore with a storm like that blowing in is one of the best ways to enjoy Superior!

Outstanding pictures of Mother Superior showing her not so gentle side. Being on shore is the only place to be in those times.

Those Great Lakes can really get stirred up, can't they! Have seen Lake Michigan almost as wild.

I wouldn't have wanted to be out on that lake for anything. But to have been sitting there watching the show she puts on would have been wonderful!!!!

Thanks for the great photos. I really miss the lake in Autumn. Well, to be honest, I miss it all the time.
