If you have been following Shoebox Memories over the past dozen years, you've seen several mentions of the Quincy Smelter project. From the grass roots efforts of community fundraisers and school class projects, to the formal actions of the Park advisory board, countless hours have been devoted toward the goal of acquiring the Smelter property as an official site of the Keweenaw National Historic Park.

That goal was finally reached this past week.

Congratulations to each person who put time and effort into this project. Here at Pasty Central we are glad we could make a small contribution to publicizing those efforts, in our Cameos, Days in History, and links to spread the word. Thanks again for today's top photo from Don de Yampert, one of my favorite shots of this historic industrial complex, which I believe was included in the 2003 Pasty Cam Calendar.

Have a good week :o)

Thank you so much Charlie for assembling this information in one site. No mention is made of the wonderful sparkplug that catalyzed this event, Kim Hoagland; area Author and retired MTU instructor, whose dynamisms who along with Scott See, enabled this project.
