Cooler mornings lately here in the Keweenaw have been producing some foggy days. Eric Stewart was recently in the Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor areas on one of those days and he snapped us a few shots.
On this particular day, the fog seemed to be just rolling in over the land and either hadn't reached where Eric was standing yet or was on its way to out over the water. Funny how it can be bright and sunny in one spot, but you can't see far with the fog blocking the view.
Eric's last photo is interesting... I think it would be neat to be out there (in a safe area, of course), kayaking around in the fog. I wonder how far out he went that day?

Eric probably needed a foghorn on his kayak. Pretty scenes!

Speaking of fog horns..On one of my freighter trips from duluth to chicago the ships fog horn ran 3 times a minute for the whole trip of 3 days.

I remember being in Jacobsville in the summers when the fog rolled in, and the lighthouse erupting with the big foghorn. I can still hear it like it was yesterday, and this was in the 1960s and 70s. It would go all night, and since we were right down the road from that lighthouse, we listened to it all night long!

Marie, I grew up in Jacobsville, I remember Ruonavaara's but may have been a different family, I think first names were Richard and Elmer if I remember right. My brother Ernie and I cleared the trees for the road from the Coast Guard Station to the beach back in the 60's. I remember the groaning foghorn too. The freighters used the channel more back then.
