Keweenaw Brewfest 2014 took place this past Saturday, at the East Houghton Waterfront Park, located near the Super 8 motel. It's the 5th year for this annual event and this year featured 45 brewers, serving 145 beers for the attendees to sample. The event was founded and is organized by Mike Rose and is a fundraiser to benefit the Keweenaw Community Foundation and the projects they help fund.

Last year's event sold 1,200 tickets and in the past 4 years of holding the Brewfest, they've raised about $70,000 that the Keweenaw Community Foundation uses to fund grants, scholarships and endowments that benefit organizations in the community, such as, UP Wildlife Habitat, Mont Ripley Ski Patrol, Camp 911, Lake Superior Stewardship and Habitat for Humanity, just to name a few.

You can see from Dennis Kemper's photos here today, that this year's event also had a good turnout, too. And what a good location to hold the event, with a great view of Mont Ripley ski runs as a bonus.

did anyone get to sample and enjoy those new Vollworth's Keweenaw Brewery Beer Brats at the Brewfest? I hear they are delicious. Wish I could have been there.

By the way, I just got back from a 10 day self-driving tour of the lake country of Finland.
So much of the country side is like the Keweenaw.
Beautiful lakes near the Russian border.
