Taana Kalliainen and a group of about 15 friends took off from the Arnheim Dam to spend the day kayaking on the Sturgeon River, ending up 8 ½ hours later at the Sturgeon River Bridge, on US 41 near Chassell.
It sure looks like they had a beautiful day for this adventure, with plenty of picturesque locations to stop along the way for fishing, swimming and just taking a break.
Kayaking is a great way to see parts of the countryside that you wouldn't otherwise get to view. Not to mention that paddling down a river so calm and serene like the Sturgeon is in today's photos, settles down your heart, mind and body, along with refreshing your soul. At least that's what it does for me. If you haven't tried kayaking, you really should. It's one of the quietest, most relaxing ways to explore the Keweenaw.

What an awesome way to spend a summer day. Is the railroad bridge/line still active?
