Philip Odum did something recently that many of us only think about doing. He spent the night on the shores of Lake Superior, at Whitefish Bay, watching the night sky change with each passing minute.
Phil said it was an incredible experience lying on the beach, with the satellites, meteorites and so many, many stars above him glittering and sparkling in the night sky.
Just seeing the Whitefish Bay campus lit up for the night is beautiful enough, but then Phil adds the photos of the changing sky throughout the night, with the stars seeming to get brighter as the sky became darker.
That last photo is amazing, too, as the stars disappear with the dawn of morning beginning. Oh so many colors there to take the place of the glittering sky lights of the night before.
Wow, down to the wire with Friday's Pasty Cam. I really thought we were going to miss a daily update for the first time in over 16 years. It was a complicated set of challenges...
Friday's update to Pasty Central was the first time using Windows 8.1. In the morning I started the process of migrating over all the software we use to do the editing, and was interrupted by a series of demands here in Marquette, where Edie and I are basically spending the summer. As you may know, we are staying at Beacon House while she is having hyperbaric oxygen treatments, to help speed healing after surgery back in January. With some unforeseen items I had to attend to, Friday's update was put on the back burner until late in the evening. Then I found some of the software behaved differently on Windows 8.1. It was like the keystone cops, racing back and forth between computers to troubleshoot the process, until... bingo... 4 minutes till midnight Mary's post squeaked in. <<whew!>>
Thanks for all the well-wishes Edie has received this summer, and for the nice cards and notes while we've been here. It has been a real opportunity to meet some Marquette Pasty Cammies, as well as some from other areas, here at the Beacon House with their own challenges. We even met one volunteer here who worked as a waitress at the Hut, back in the day when they featured car-hop service! The Pasty Central kitchen next door to the Hut will be humming again in a few weeks as we resume pasty shipping after the summer break, and we look forward to getting back home to the Copper Country :o)

Beautiful pictures! I spent the night on the beaches of Lake Superior a couple of times as a teen. No Whitefish Point around though.
Good wishes and continued prayers going out to Edie as she continues her recovery.

The photos are very beautiful. I try to do that once in awhile-lie outside in the hammock at night and watch the changing sky. The problem is-- i fall asleep before very long.I appreciate the beauty captured in these photos!
