While Deb and Ron Simons were here visiting her Mom, they were waiting for the deer to show up in the backyard like they normally do every time they're there and as you can see by today's photos, they weren't disappointed.
Deb said this was the first time that they saw one with antlers, though, so they were pretty excited about that. She figures this little buck may have been one of last year's babies that visited, since it was a smaller one. He visited each day they were there in Lake Linden and Deb said his antlers grew just in the short time they were there.
The deer sure enjoy the treats they can find in the yard around the neighborhood. They get to dine on apples in the tree and ones that have fallen on the ground already, along with corn that a neighbor leaves out on a stump there for them to snack on. Deb says it's always a highlight of their visit, to be able to watch them every morning. Thanks for sharing them with us all, Deb and Ron!

Those are great photos of the deer this morning. Nothing a critter likes more than an easy meal. If deer could smile these ones would.

Seeing healthy deer as these are is always a pretty sight. Down in our lower field the other day Bob & I saw a huge buck, He wasn't at all nervous about us either, he was close enough Bob counted him as a 14 pointer. Maybe this little guy in Deb's pictures can grow that big someday.

Mary, I think you chose my favorite pictures. We honestly never left the back porch when the deer were there. They were not afraid of us, though they were a little nervous. My mom's neighbor was sitting out in her chair, where the deer have to walk right by her to get some food, and they didn't even care that she was there. There are wild flowers growing in the back of my mom's yard that the doe really seemed to enjoy also, as well as the leaves on the trees. I guess she likes "salad" :-) The buck loved the corn and the apples and he was just so darn cute. It was very exciting! There's a mom and her babies that come too, but they didn't show up when we were there. Thanks for sharing these, Mary.

Hi My mom has deer in her yard but has a different reaction. She would as soon they did not visit, as they eat flowers that she has planted. She has repellent that she applies and that helps, as long as she re-applies after a rainstorm.
We understand that with habitat loss due to each new housing development(her house has been there since the 50's)the deer don't have many options, but we wish they'd opt for other yards.

Kathryn, my mom gets mad about that too, and makes sure her hanging baskets are on the porch at night.
My co-worker was having problems with her hostas disappearing to the deer. She bought some "zest" soap, and put them around her hostas and the deer never touched them after that. She said it works wonderfully. Maybe your mom could try that.

Fantastic photos. Glad you and Ron had a chance to see the deer while you were in the U.P. Sorry we weren't able to connect this year, but it was important that you and I spent as much time as possible with our remaining parents. Bless You!
