We've been featuring a number of Philip Odum's photos lately, as he's been making his way around the U.P. snapping pictures. Today's shots were taken from the Tower of History in the Soo. It was Philip's first time up in the tower and he said those 292 steps to the top were a lot of stairs! Quite the "birds eye view" of the town, though, so it was worth the climb.

The second photo is the Cloverland Electric plant. Philip said that being up there in the tower seeing the plant down below, really gave him a feeling of the size of it. You don't get that total picture looking at it from the ground.

Lastly, he was lucky enough to catch the American Spirit as it was departing the Soo Locks, heading downbound on the St. Mary's River. Even the boat looks longer from up there. So if you're visiting the Soo area, I'd say a trek up the stairs of the Tower of History is a must do. You can't beat the view!

Nice pics...they look like paintings, must be the weather.
Something tells me it's all happening at the Soo.

Have never been in the Tower, but it all looks familiar and brings back memories. Thanks, Philip.

We used to be able to fish all along the St Marys side (front side) of the electric plant long ago, but when we visited Soo last August was disappointed to see that that's off limits........only fishing is from the downriver side of the facility that I could see. Guess it's been that way for a long time. Used to catch some dandy rainbows!

Greetings:

Is the Cloverland Electric hydro building constructed with Lake Superior sandstone or does the photo make the building look like sandstone?
