Philip Odum took the time to snap the flowers during his travels around the U.P. I'm not sure if he smelled them, too, but he sure photographed a nice variety of wildflowers. He said the Tiger Lily was one of thousands along the way between Hessel and Cedarville. The Lady Slippers he found in the Hiawatha National Forest, with the remaining located somewhere between here and there. ;-)
According to Philip, the pretty yellow blooms in the last photo are called Coreopsis Lanceolata, more commonly called Tickseed. I don't know if I've ever seen this variety of wildflower before…it sure is a brightly colored one. What a great way to celebrate the middle of the week… a flowery bouquet for hump day!

We had a pink lady slipper in our front yard on torch lake. Every year that flower would appear and it was eagerly anticipated. The wild flowers are gorgeous. Thanks for the pictures.

Good Morning. I love the wild flowers this morning, especially the pink lady slipper and the tickseed. I have never seen a tickseed before. Where are they found? Thank you, Phillip and Mary. These are especially welcome after all of the snow, cold, dreary winter Michigan had this year.

Hi With regard to the tickseed, my grandma & mom always called them Coreopsis instead. One place they are found is in & around the gravel drveway to our vacation place not far from Cheboygan.
Incidentally, if those were current pictures of the ladyslippers, it shows how much later flowers bloom in the UP versus the Straits area. Usually we can catch those Memorial Day weekend in some woods near Mackinaw City (they were a week or two late this year).

Gorgeous pictures. When did he take the pictures of the lady slippers? I haven't seen any this year.
