If you've looked through the Pasty Gallery albums that Marsha Galbraith has assembled, you'll see several with a theme. I found today's photos in one titled, "Barns, and the cows who loved them." It seems that Marsha enjoys photographing old barns and sheds and I understand why…they have so much to tell about the property they sit on and the people who lived on those farms when they were in full swing.

It's really enjoyable to see them kept up and standing there proclaiming that some hard working farmers once lived here and made a living raising animals and crops. My favorite of the four barns today, is the first one, only because of the field of lupines leading up to the barn. What a great photo!

Looking at the first three barns, you can see the similarity in the construction of them. Starting with the rock and mortar foundation and then the typical wood siding and sloping metal roof, they all resemble each other. They're simple as far as architecture is concerned, but there's just something about a barn that catches my eye. I'm glad it catches Marsha's eye, too.

The last building is different than the first three in shape and construction. It probably held equipment, maybe the tractor, rather than animals and hay and it may have been referred to as a shed, rather than a barn. But, it still fits the bill for the barn category, too. It has character all its own.

Love the barns, Marsha and Mary!! My husband also loved to photograph barns....and I liked to paint (pictures) them.

Nice pictures Marsha. I do so enjoy looking at pictures of barns. Barns are a lot like people in that they look similar but each of them has their own individual story to tell.

Slices of rural scenery.

We had supper last night at a new place. Teddy's Barn and Grill. It was a former dairy barn, styled just like these, and now the best place to go for a great meal. Go to their Facebook or website, there are pictures of the construction and remodeling of the process. Teddy's Barn and Grill in Amber Iowa.

Wow! These photos are SO U.P.! I feel as though I'm right there...smell and feel that air, hear the sounds, feel the peace....of the U.P.

One day after work at the Enrico Fermii nuke plant
I stopped and helped a guy with a small wiring
problem in his huge old horse barn just outside of
Monroe, Mich.
After we solved a few problems he told me of the
large second story on the barn and we went up an
old ladder and lo and behold there was a huge
hardwood dance floor, with seating built in around
the whole area. This is where the old French
farmers would hold their Saturday night dances 100
years ago. We could envision skirts whirrling as
we downed a few cold beers in their honor

Wonder if they had 'line dancing' way back then ~ stomping their boots on that hardwood floor?;)

Eddyfitz...I remember worked at Fermi II when it was being constructed. The engineer that I was assigned to took me in to see the core, what an unbelievable sight. I could tell that they were definitely trying to keep something..IN. That was when the American space station fell to Earth in 1979. The engineer told me that I was in the safest building on the planet.
