Dorothy Jamison was on hand over the weekend to snap a few shots of one of the many activities that took place during the Houghton County Relay for Life. She stopped by the Aspirus Keweenaw Cancer Crusader booth, where George Twardzik and Terilynne Budreau were human targets for folks to soak by throwing a ball to hit the target and release the overhead rush of cold water. On a normal hot summer day, this would be an easy activity to be in, but when it's rainy and 48°, it takes a hearty soul to participate.
The kids doing the soaking are part of "Kimmie's Krew" (actually Kimmie's brother and sister) and look to be spot on when hitting the target. I love how Dorothy captured the different expressions as the soakee is waiting to be doused in cold water.
All the activities and the 24 hours of walking around the Houghton High School track is to raise money for cancer research and honor those that have survived a bout with cancer, along with those that have lost their battle. I'm not sure what the final figure raised is, but preliminary totals reached over $61,000 this year
