Brenda Leigh and her hubby took a drive to the Munising area to take part in the Pictured Rocks Day. She mentioned that they had wanted to get on the free boat ride, but there were just too many people wanting to do the same thing, so they just decided to walk around and enjoy the festivities, instead.
There were a number of vendors according to Brenda, but two of them really caught her attention. The first being the guy with the birds. These were all injured birds that he cares for, but Brenda wasn't sure who he was or any other particulars. She did say that it was mentioned about fishermen leaving their lines and the waterfowl getting tangled up in them and also about the owls eating mice that are contaminated with D-con or other poison and then the bird ends up dying, too. That's a shame and something I hadn't really thought about before.
I just love the big eyes on that Great Horned Owl, so big and bright, almost like they aren't even real. The next owl is a Barn Owl, which you can see in the photo that he's biting the guys arm. I wonder if it was playfully biting and not very hard…at least I hope that was the case. The next two photos are of a Red-tailed Hawk. Quite the bird with its hooked beak, I sure wouldn't want this guy to grab onto my arm like the Barn Owl, did.
There was also a local woman from Munising there doing some face painting and not just small stars or rainbows on your cheek as you can see in the photos. Brenda said she thought about the face painting all afternoon, after seeing a little girl with a masklike painting and she decided she wanted to do it herself. How fun is that?

"Mr. Owl, how many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?"

Mary, I wish I would have had more info on that great presentation by this gentleman. He had an attached microphone but it was not working very well. The audience just got bits and pieces of information.

the people, organization, with the birds were at tech one time, and those birds are incredible to see. I loved the owl.

Fantastic pictures! Looks like it was a fun time! One note though, I don't think that is a barn owl. It looks more like a great gray owl.

Great photos of a fun and interesting day. I think all raptors are magnificent birds. Times have changed, I remember back in time when all hawks were 'chickenhawks' and were not looked upon with favor and adoration.

Love seeing the birds up close. Wish us humans could be less danger to them.

Cool close-ups of owls. As Philip said, the biting one is a Barred Owl. A Barn Owl is smaller and quite white.

Thanks Philip and Eugenia for the correct info. As I stated earlier the microphone was a hindrance and one could not hear half of what he was saying. SO THANKS FOR THE CORRECTION.

I've always thought barn owls are so cute 'cause their little faces are shaped like hearts.
