From the looks of the photos that were sent in here today, by Barb Bouwkamp, she was on a mission to bring us some of the beautiful colors that have been bursting out all over the Copper Country, since the warm weather has come around.

She found these bright yellow Marsh Marigolds, also referred to as Cowslips, in a field near Mason and then again in Betsy. The third photo is of course the common Dandelion, which is often considered a nuisance, but you have to admit, it is a pretty shade of yellow and besides…the bees like them and we all know about bees and honey, so there, they aren't as much of a nuisance as you first thought.

Moving on to Barb's fourth pretty flower photo, this one does a double duty as it blossoms with little white flowers, so that later you'll get to enjoy sweet, wild strawberries amongst those leaves along the side of the road.

Also found along the side of the road and in fields, is the English Daisy, which although quite common, is still one of my favorites. I like to pick them around the 4th of July and put them in water dyed with red food coloring and blue food coloring, then let them sit for awhile. They soak up the color with the water, turning their petals red and blue...add a few white ones along with them and you have the perfect patriotic centerpiece.

Barb's last capture of the wild flowers is another of my favorites, the Forget-me-not. This small blue flower has been adopted by a number of organizations as their symbol of love and hope, including the Alzheimer's Association and is actually Alaska's state flower. Such a dainty little flower, you can't help but love them.

I love wildflowers. The wild strawberries makes me think of Strawberry Fields Forever.

This is what we can see if we slow down and look around.

I love wildflowers too, and these photos are absolutely beautiful ~ especially with the contrast between green and yellow!

Flowers are Mother Nature's way of smiling. I am going to do the coloring of the Daisies trick. That is a neat idea. I must lead a sheltered life I've not heard of it before. Thank you

the forget-me-nots are my favorites but, I do love all the flowers.

Mary and Duane, we used to do that with daisies in high school chemistry class after we returned from our annual wild flower gathering field trip.

You can also color Queen Ann's Lace too. Make lovely bouquets too. Any white flower probably would work.

Shirley & Kay I have a white lilac bush in my yard. I am going to try that and see if it works with those.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 - 10:04 am:

Duane, that may work but I think the flower needs to have a moisture-absorbing stem ~ lilacs are sort of 'woody'. Let us know if it works.
