Joe Kirkish spent a few days at his cottage near Copper Harbor and was able to enjoy the beauty that surrounds him there, from his favorite spot at Great Sand Bay, to the greenery that has sprouted and vividly colors our surroundings, to the footprints that so many visitors have left in the sand.
In contrast to yesterday's photos from the Jacobsville/White City side of Lake Superior, today's shots from Joe, show us that there are no ice floes on this side of Superior, but I'm sure that clean, clear water is still just as icy cold. You can tell from Joe's photo of the bottom step to the beach, that there have already been a number of visitors there, leaving their footprints on the sandy stair and the beach below the stairway, too.
Then the scenery switches from the blue and beige of the Big Lake and the beach, to the greenery of serene. Isn't that just the most perfect setting for a relaxing spot to sit in a chair with a glass of ice tea and a good book? I'd love to transport myself there right now.
Joe's last two photos were taken in the same spot at his cottage, but at different times of day. You can see that he's an early riser, capturing the sun coloring the Keweenaw sky as it comes up for the day. Then he returns to that same spot to show us all what it looks like there in the light of day. Both photos are beautiful, but of course the sunrise shot takes the prize!
This wasn't just any weekend that Joe spent at his cottage either…it was actually his birthday weekend. What a great way to celebrate your life, enjoying the beauty that surrounds you here UP North. Happy Birthday, Joe!

Beautiful photos, Joe! I'm betting you had a great Birthday considering where and how you spent it!

Great pictures again today as usual. I particularly like the sunrise picture and the bucolic scene with the wagon wheel leaning against the logs, which appear to be the corner of a log building.

Great shots Joe! I can always tell the photos are Joe's even before I read who took them. Joe has a good eye, a good camera and great subjects! Keep up the good work! Thanks!
