This is the time of year when we see all different kinds of birds around the Keweenaw, due to the migrating. Some are returning for the summer months, others are just passing through. We have pictures from three different photographers today, with a few of them.

We start with one from Sally Beaudette who spotted this Rose-breasted Grosbeak on her deck in Bootjack. These birds spend their winters in Mexico and the tip of South America, then they come back north here for the summer. I wonder if they're confused with the cold weather here right now, thinking they may have come north too soon.

The next two photos were snapped by Donna MacIntosh, in Baraga. She has a number of the Grosbeaks on her feeders, too, along with an American Goldfinch, all decked out in the yellow coat they wear in the summer months. I love this time of year, when you go outside and hear all the different bird songs. If you want a preview of what you'll hear with these birds on your feeders, click on the following links:

The last two photos were taken by Joe and Linda Schneller, in Bootjack. You can't quite tell in the first of the two photos, but those four white birds flying low over the water, are American White Pelicans. The second picture is zoomed in closer and you can see their pelican heads and beaks. These big birds spend their winters in a few of the southern states and Mexico. They're on their migration route now, heading back north to spend the summer in a few of the northern US states and Canada. They aren't seen around the Keweenaw, unless they're migrating, so it's pretty exciting when you do spot them. Here's what they sound like: American White Pelican

Thanks to Sally, Donna, Joe and Linda for sharing their birding photos with us all!

After a harsh winter, God blesses us with His beauty in the return of the birds.
Wonderful photos, thanks all!

Hey--i had a rose breasted grosbeak at my feeder
also yesterday! I had 4 dogs in the house ( one a
granddog) trying to get through the patio doors to
chase it.I could not get a good pic so i thoroughly
enjoyed the photo today-and the other pics too.

All the pictures are beautiful and colorful. I am thinking of getting a hummingbird feeder this summer.

Nice pics of some of our colorful feathered friends today. Went from a grosbeak in the first picture to a grosserbeak in the final picture.

We had a Rose Breasted Grosbeak at the suet block this morning. (Cornell) Our Hummies are back now, too. Pretty little Ruby Throat. :o) I enjoy going out and standing still just to listen to all their singing. Seems like the Chickadees will 'talk' right back to you. Just like they're thanking us for the sunflower seeds. Those tiny flowers and the little birds are testimonies to God's love for us.

I just love birds. We were sitting outside just
listening to and watching the Orioles today. There
were many others out there, the Grosbeak being one
of them, but I love watching the Orioles!

The hummingbirds are back too...I haven't seen an
Indigo Bunting yet, or an Evening Grosbeak....

I saw my first rose breasted grosbeak this year here in Ohio. They are really getting around!
