If you're a boatnerd, you would probably say that Danielle Adams has friends in all the right places. The photos today are from her tour on board the Lee A. Tregurtha, given by her friend Brad, who happens to be the Captain of the Freighter. Not only did Danielle get a great tour, she even was treated to lunch on board with the guys! Yes, indeed, if you're a boat fanatic, it doesn't get much better than that!

I'm not going to try to explain the photos she is sharing with us here today, since other than knowing it's the bow, the stern, the cargo, the deck and the boom, I have no clue otherwise what is taking place, so I suggest you just enjoy the tour and the unique views from on board the Lee A. Tregurtha.

Thanks to Danielle and Brad for sharing their tour with us, too!

Cool shots!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, May 16, 2014 - 08:14 am:

Great photos, Danielle! The Lee A. is a favorite freighter of one of my email friends, who was also privileged to 'visit' onboard once.

Since they appear to be unloading (boom out) at Marquette I would guess the cargo is coal or is it something else.

Very cool pictures, surprised to still see this much ice, I thought it would have disappeared by now.

By Mel, MN (Mehollop) on Friday, May 16, 2014 - 09:18 am:

Uncle Chuck - there haven't been many clear days this week, but the one satellite photo I was able to discern showed plenty of ice still along the south shore - places like Ashland, L'Anse, Marquette, Munising, etc. Probably still a slug in Duluth as well. We've had snow flurries in northern MN the past couple of days, and I've seen evidence of the same over in da UP as well. Winter's not quite over.

Great shots Danielle, thanks for sharing. How was lunch? I am told they eat pretty good on the boats.

Great pictures Danielle! You have great connections!

Does not look like swimming time yet with all the ice. Nice pictures.

We just arrived in Ishpeming an hour ago. As we drove along US 28
and a little bit of US 41, we were surprised to see that the harbours
in Munising and Marquette were filled with ice. My daughter says
the wind must have blown it in, it didn't look like that a couple of
days ago. In Shingleton, we saw snow on the ground and on the
cars. The snow that fell last night, has melted here in Ishpeming.
My daughter said she felt like crying when she saw it this morning.

Lucky Danielle and all of us on Pasty Cam for the pictures she has
shared.

Shingleton...good memories. The cabin we used to go to was south of Shingleton, owned by the Perrys at the time. I have posted this before and I don't mean to be redundant, but this is my connection to the UP:

I especially like the freighters that have the pilothouse at the bow. Do they still make some that way?

By Danielle L. Adams (Badkid) on Saturday, May 17, 2014 - 11:13 am:

Thanks everyone!! They were unloading stone. They did load
ore later on.
Lunch was awesome! Sitting and bs'n with the captain (who
gave me the tour) and other guys was way cool. They're all
good guys and friendly.

Love these photos. Strange seeing so much ice still
in the water. Don't think it will EVER warm up this
year :-(

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Saturday, May 17, 2014 - 11:36 pm:

thanks Danielle I enjoyed your pictures as you must
have enjoyed your time "on board" the freighter. We
used to go on the coal boats as a small kid in
Hubbell and the Quincy Mill and the last time I was
on a freighter was 56 years ago.
