More old photos of the U.P. seem to be surfacing all the time. This one is from the National Archives Records Administration, Great Lakes Region. By the look of the trees, it appears to be an early Spring day (or late winter in some years) and is identified as being in the Ottawa National Forest.

We've been receiving lots of feedback from our Facebook adaptation of Pasty Central 'Day in History'. Partly because, for the first time, this year it has been in a video format, instead of Flash. Today our Cameo for Sylvania Wilderness appeared, revisiting the rich history of this beautiful area.

Have a good week :o)

Interesting mix of "horsepower" and machinery.

I wonder who was the most proud, the new truck owner or the teamster that was still bringing in the logs the old fashioned way? There are times still where horse power is used for logging areas that are not permitted to have big equipment on. A few years back a man in Allegan logged a portion of an area in the State Game Area under the condition no motorized vehicles.

It's probably a pretty good bet that those logs aren't headed for a paper mill.
