For years the EPA's "Superfund" list of toxic sites included Quincy Smelter. Cleanup work to reclaim this historic gem from time's relentless assault has succeeded in having it delisted. Our former Pasty Cameo from the Quincy Smelter Association has been updated with a note about the current agreement with the National Park Service, and the ongoing effort to raise funds.
Our photos today from the Guest Gallery include the winter scene from Brian Rendel, along the snowmobile trail that passes through the Smelter comlex. The summer view is from Tim Minich, simply labeled, "Mom's Quincy Smelter shot". (Mrs. Minich?) You'll find more recent notes about the Quincy Smelter at the Association's Blog
I love that 2nd picture. Very nice, taken through the trees like that! I'd like to be the fella sitting out there just taking it all in.

That snowmobile trail is one of my favorites. Bob & I parked our snowmobiles and checked out those old trains. So much history in that area!

Great reminder Charlie.
As an update, the community has since collected $100,000 to meet the matching grant from the generous anonymous donor. No longer in danger of being demolished, even more work lies ahead.

Are there any tour times & days set up this summer/autumn? I would just LOVE to see the laboratory, etc!

I wonder if that "generous anonymous donor" might be in the infamous one percent category.......
