Last week, after the Keweenaw was hit with yet another blast of winter, Mary Schmitt and her hubby Ron, took their grandson sledding at the old Hancock High School on Quincy Street. The sloping front yard there is perfect for some sledding fun and the view isn't half bad either.
Ron was Grandpa extraordinaire, trudging up the hill with his grandson and enjoyed the thrill of the descent then, too. Mary manned the camera to record this memory making time with their grandson for us and his memory book. Talk about spending some quality time with the little guy and giving him the joy of one last time sledding for the winter season.
Actually, Mary told me that they had wanted to take him sledding earlier in the winter, but it was so cold most days, that they couldn't get outside. With that fresh snow and the sunshine on this day, they jumped at the chance to get on the hill and fly!
p.s... The weather man says this afternoon and overnight, we're in for another wintry blast :o|

Just have to ask.......
Who is Miss Escola?
By AJ - WI (Ajinwi) on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 - 06:07 pm:
Miss Eskola. Our highly respected Principal for many years. All she had to do was cast an eagle eye at misbehaving students and the disruption immediately ended! A wonderful person, teacher, and Principal!

Miss Eskola was the most respected principal in the history of HCH! She spoke and students listened. We could use more of this respect today.
Lets go backward to progress!!

Yes, sounds like we could use more principals like her!
I remember my aunt (Irma Saari) from Paavola talking about Miss Eskola when I was about 7 or 8 years old. She was 3 years older than me. I'm 74 now, so that was a while ago.
