You'd think that when winter is, for the most part over, here in the Copper Country, that it would be all good from there on, right? Well, that's not quite how it works when you've gotten over 300" of snow.

This is what it looked like in Jodi Corrigan's Bootjack yard this past week. Her family was faced with the massive piles of snow melting too quickly and posing a danger of flooding their homes on the shores of Torch Lake. So they called in Ziemnick Excavating and their equipment to bulldoze some paths to the lake, directing the melt that way, instead of into their basements and homes. Look at the size of those snow banks...pushed by the bulldozer. That's Jodi's front yard in the fourth and fifth photos…what a mess!

Jodi said the family took on the attitude that, "You can't stop it, so you might as well get a few chuckles in along the way". For example, when Jodi sunk in freezing slush up past her thighs, her Mom had a good laugh, along with the rest of the gang. I'm sure they'll be telling stories about the big spring melt of 2014, for years to come!

Wow...and I thought shoveling the driveway was a pain.

Just another day in the U.P. We are a hardy
crew,here in Upper Michigan. We
deal with the weather and all of its challenges.
Amazing pics! Great family!

You described it best, Mary ~ "What a mess!"

That takes a lot of planning and strategic thinking. Good for them.
Hope it works!

I'm thinking that has to be a violation of several state and federal dept of ecology laws prohibiting non-point pollution draining/dumping/running into the navigable waterways of the united states. Lol

You cannot be serious.:-/

Good grief!!!

As crazy (and sad) as it sounds I would venture
that if the federal government looked long enough
and hard enough, virtually ALL of us have probably
violated multiple regulations & laws and also
committed felonies.

With as much snowpack as there has been this year
they claim that down here on the upper Mississippi
we are in only moderate danger of flooding (about
normal).

As much as everyone wants to see Spring, sometimes
it's wise to pray for a slow and steady thaw.
