In the last 48 hours we’ve had a colossal snow storm in the upper midwest. But this morning it’s calm, like we see in this scene from Bear Schenk. Hard to believe it’s a Springtime shot of the sun coming up over Rice Lake, near Lake Linden. In spite of the snowy, cold winter/spring here UP North, morning scenes like this help us get through it all.
The second photo here was snapped by Ryan Finkbeiner, who spotted this "sign of spring" in Dollar Bay. He said they saw this robin Wednesday evening while the kids were out playing on the snow hills, but he had a short lens on as he was not planning on taking any telephoto shots. He did run inside for a longer lens and the robin flew off just as he came back out the door. Murphy's law, right? Anyway, I don't think this Robin got the memo, that winter still has a grip on us here in the Keweenaw!

All the Springtime birds have been here for a few weeks now. Robins, Red Wing Blackbirds, even some Seagulls are flying about. All that's missing now is Spring weather!

Saw a few Cardinals high up in the trees singing and the red color against the blue morning sky looks great.

Cardinals pretty much hang around my area (s. OH) all winter. However all the others must go a little farther south, but are migrating back slowly.

Shirley---Here in central Florida the cardinals that do go south in the fall seem to go south of us during deep winter but they showed up a week or so on their way back to you. We feed them full of good stuff for the long trip. Love their bright red color. I'll tell them to stop and say hi on their way to the UP.

Thanks, Richard, I'll look/listen for 'em. I think a lot of them just hang around here all summer ~ guess they don't know what they're missing by not going on UP north.;)

Hope that robin brought a snow scoop if he hopes to find worms under all that snow.

Mary Drew--you always manage to find beautiful pics for pasty. Both are so lovely today...but i especially am glad to see that robin! Now I believe spring is here.

It was just last week, here in Illinois, I saw a formation of about 50 Canadian geese flying. . . . due South. Maybe they changed their minds?
