When David Roberts was UP here visiting in the Keweenaw recently, he took a road trip around the area, snapping photos of some familiar buildings surrounded by all the snow we've received.
He started with a look up on top the Quincy Hill and a snapshot of the Quincy Mine Shafthouse #2 illuminated by the sunshine that day. With the natural light on it like that, it seems to glow on top her perch, watching over the towns of Hancock and Houghton.
From there, David drove UP to Laurium, where he found the Laurium Manor Inn surrounded by mountains of snow and blending in so well, that it seems almost camouflaged and somewhat hidden. A very regal looking place, whether covered in snow or in the lush green of summer.
After the stop in Laurium, David headed up to Phoenix, where he snapped a shot of the Phoenix Church, which like the Laurium Manor Inn, is quite beautiful no matter the season. It's just such a peaceful spot in winter, spring, summer and fall.
I'm sure you recognize the building in David's fourth photo, the Chapel at the Monastery on M-26. Quite an impressive structure peeking out of the trees on the shores of Lake Superior. I've heard that the services there on Sunday are very solemn and moving.
The last stop on David's tour here today, is looking out at Great Sand Bay and the stairway down to the beach there. Well, actually, you're looking at what's left of the stairway, that the snow hasn't yet made disappear. It looks like if you want to get down to the shore in this spot, you'll need your snowshoes to make it down the steps.
Fun to see these familiar landmarks in the midst of winter. Thanks for taking us along, David.

Great pics, Dave!! It was hard to decide which one was going to be my background today. After much debate, Laurium Manor won. :)
