Lindsay White and her family hopped in their vehicle and took a road trip to the Munising area, so they could explore some icy U.P. wonders, before they begin to thaw again.

Their first stop was at the Munising Falls, where they had their daughter stand next to the massive frozen cascade to give some perspective to how big it really is. That's her on the left side of the icy falls. She looks miniature standing there amidst all that ice.
The second shot is just a different angle and this time she had both kids stand there for comparison sake. That's one huge chunk of ice!
In the third photo, the kids found a smaller frozen falls, one that they could just about put their arms around, but still much taller than them. I'm sure they had never seen any icicles quite that big before.

The next group of photos were taken at the Eben Ice Caves, located between Munising and Marquette. More big ice there, as you can see by the kids alongside it again. The big difference here is that you can go inside the ice caves for a look at all that's formed from inside and out.
I didn't get a chance to ask Lindsay if they had anything to help them walk, such as ice cleats, but I hear that they're recommended if you want to explore without slipping and sliding so much.

I probably won't make it there this year anymore, but I have to put this on my "list of things to do in the U.P." Even in the winter months, there's always something you can find to do UP North. It truly is a year round playground to explore!

FOOTNOTE: Yesterday's shots from Frank Paris over on Mackinac Island were pretty interesting. If you missed them, just click here: Thursday, March 13th, to take a look at them!

Those are some impressive signs of a cold winter. There is beauty in winter, you just gotta find it.
