Last winter, on February 13th, Frank Paris and friends were on a snowmobile adventure in Copper Harbor on their antique machines. This year they traveled from St. Ignace, across the ice to Mackinac Island. Once there, they met up with a few of the residents of the Island who were also on old snowmobiles. These folks acted as tour guides, showing them around the Island, even providing chili, hot dogs and hot chocolate for the group. Frank says it was the best snowmobile ride that he ever took.
He shares a few shots of the classic ride with us here today, starting with a stop in front of the Grand Hotel, then moving on to the main street downtown. Frank's third photo was snapped from higher up on the Island overlooking the marina area below and the last one was taken somewhere in the center of the Island, he said.
I would think that getting to Mackinac Island on a snowmobile would be quite the adventure to begin with, but to do it on these antique machines has to be the ultimate ride there. It's probably the noisiest transportation the Island folks see over there, motorized, but still without wheels.
What a fun time! Thanks for sharing your classic adventure with us all, Frank!
Looks like everyone had a great time! Thanks for the 'tour'!

I didn't realize that there are hotels open in the winter there. After googling it I discovered there was. I learned something again today. It sure looks different in the winter. Not a trip for me though. I am a little leery of ice, I even keep a close eye on it when I am having a martini. Looks like they had a good time.

Love the old Grand Hotel! Beautiful architecture. Neat antique snowmobiles, too.

Mike B, I'm guessing by the decal and style, it's a 60's Bolens model.

The yellow one is a Hus-ski and the red ones are called a Diablo Rouge and like Janie said, they were made by Bolens.
